The Colorado River flows past its northern border and several national and state parks are accessible from Moab.  Between the red rock wonders of Arches National Park, the incredible sandstone landscapes of Canyonlands National Park, and the cool forests of the La Sal Mountains, Moab offers endless opportunity for sight-seeing and exploration.

The town, with a resident population of just 5,000 swells to two to three times that in the popular spring to fall recreation season. Through the experts at MAC visitors can find great accommodation choices with dozens of hotels in Moab, condos, campgrounds and RV parks throughout Moab’s southwestern-style Main Street area.

Area Attractions

  • Arches National Park

Arches National Park preserves over two thousand natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations. In some areas, faulting has exposed millions of years of geologic history. The extraordinary features of the park, including balanced rocks, fins and pinnacles, are highlighted by a striking environment of contrasting colors, landforms and textures.

  • Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park preserves a colorful landscape of sedimentary sandstones eroded into countless canyons, mesas and buttes by the Colorado River and its tributaries. the park sits in a vast basin bordered by sheer cliffs of Wingate Sandstone.

  • Dead Horse Point State Park

Located about 25 miles from Moab, Dead Horse Point is a popular destination for a day-trip. The central feature of the park is the spectacular vista that opens up as you stand on the edge of a 2,000 cliff overlooking Canyonlands National Park.

  • Manti-La Sal National Forest and Mountains

Along the eastern Utah border near Moab, the La Sal Mountains rise 12,721 feet above sea level. This part of the Forest provides climatic relief to the desert of the Colorado River Plateau. Narrow forest roads lead travelers to the high mountain passes, and into narrow canyons like Dark Canyon where the crystalline rock structure of the peaks is exposed for all to see or into Mill Creek where Oowah Lake sparkles as a small jewel amid spruce trees.

What to Do in Moab

Bordering town, the mighty Colorado skirts Arches National Park and cuts through the heart of Canyonlands National Park. Nearby, the historic and beautiful Green River carves its serpentine path through canyons deeper than the Grand Canyon. Trips range from mild-to-wild one-day and half-day excursions to multi-day rafting vacations. The Moab Adventure Center has information, continuous big-screen videos and special pricing. Advance reservations are suggested. See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/rafting

Moab Adventure Center guides/naturalists lead two-hour hikes in this trackless area, pointing out hidden attractions such as Surprise and Twin Arches. Although the walk/hike is moderately strenuous in places, it can be enjoyed by anyone in reasonably good physical condition. A brief tour of the Park is provided along with the hike. Many cyclists first heard about Moab when word spread about the Moab Slickrock Trail which loops through an expanse of rippled, undulating sandstone resembling a frozen, orange ocean. Although the Slickrock may be the nation’s most famous fat-tire route, there are dozens of other rock-and-mountain roads and trails. Rides range from a few hours to three or four days. Even novice riders can sign up for relatively level, easy terrain. The Moab Adventure Center has several guided trips and information. See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/biking

In just an hour or two of flight-seeing, you can experience all of Canyonlands National Park, including the sculptured, red-rock canyons of the Colorado and Green rivers. Comfortable and reliable Cessna aircraft provide window seating for each passenger. A detailed flight map and stereo headsets facilitate interpretation.  See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/flights

For those that have done it, they say it is like nothing else. The ride is smooth and tranquil in a balloon as you fly with the wind, rather than through it like fixed wing planes. With no fixed route or determined flight path, each balloon ride is a true adventure. Add to these sensations the thrill of an undulating desert floor rising and falling below you in dramatic sheer cliffs, spires, and gaping canyon country as far as the early morning light extends.  See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/hot-air-balloon-rides-moab-utah/

Venture into the Wild West with gentle cowboy-trained quarter horses. Guided by a professional wrangler, you'll explore the trails made famous by John Wayne himself. New tack and equipment will make your ride as comfortable as can be. So saddle-up and take a trek into the horizon of Moab. One of the best horseback rides can be found through Castle Creek Canyon with views of towering cliffs and famous Castle Rock.  See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/horseback

Visitors who “like to have it their way” can now call the shots on what they see and do in the area. The center’s custom tour program now puts all of this region’s ways and means of touring at the disposal of guests who prefer private travel over pre-set itineraries and group travel. Moab Adventure Center Adds New Canyoneering Adventure to Portfolio; Guided Activities Continue through November

MOAB, UT, Aug. 25, 2022– Moab Adventure Center, the go-to hub for guided adventure in and around Moab, Utah, continues to evolve ways for visitors to get up close and personal with the sandstone spires, arches, fins and hoodoos that make this a world-class vacation destination.

Among its most popular activities are canyoneering and rock climbing, pursuits that carefully take participants past their typical comfort zones.

To help answer the demand for these rapidly growing sports, the company recently added a new Moab canyoneering option that includes rappelling & adventure hiking in Bow and Arrow Canyon. This five-hour adventure begins with a hike among sandstone fins up to Longbow Arch, followed by rappelling through slot canyons hidden by massive sandstone monoliths. The route descends farther and farther down into the canyons on each of four rappels. The first descent is a warm-up at 15 feet, followed by descents of 80 and 25 feet, concluding with an open drop of 50 feet. Professional canyoneering guides provide detailed instruction through each section, offering insights into geology, plant life and natural history. No experience is required, just an appetite for adventure. These twice-daily immersions into prehistoric worlds continue through November. For more information, please see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/moab-rappelling-hike.

Also available through November is Moab Adventure Center’s signature introductory program to canyoneering: Canyoneering Grandstaff Canyon - Ephedra's Grotto and Morning Glory Arch. This five-hour excursion may well claim to be the best place on the planet to be introduced to canyoneering. The first rappel is 90 feet down into a narrow chasm called the Medieval Chamber and then 120 feet down the massive Morning Glory Arch (actually a Natural Bridge). The adventure concludes with a hike along a trickling stream bed in the gorgeous Grandstaff Canyon. The experience continues daily through November. For details, please see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/moab-canyoneering.

The per person rate for each canyoneering program is $125 (age 13 and up) and $105 (age 10-12). The price includes snacks and water, gear and safety equipment, guided instruction, and transfers.

When it comes to canyoneering, this region is celebrated as “canyon country,” where the sport of canyoneering was practically invented. “Like rock climbing, canyoneering is a crafted experience conducted under the watchful eyes of trained instructors,” said Sierra Schmutz, General Manager of the Moab Adventure Center. “The playing field comprises gear and safety equipment fitted to the participants, sheer rock walls, narrow crevasses, a breathtaking natural bridge, wide-open vistas and, always, adrenalin.”

What is the difference between rock climbing and canyoneering? Rock climbers use the textures, bumps, and cracks in the rock walls (and may wear special shoes) to go up a rock wall. Once they reach the top, they descend with the rope and harness back to the horizontal ground. Canyoneers slide or rappel down into canyons and caverns where only a rope can give them access. Often there are multiple descents through a given canyon.

Another popular pursuit is basic rock climbing. The per person rate for Moab Rock Climbing Introduction is $125 ($105 for ages 5-12). This includes snacks and water, gear and safety equipment, and guided instruction. Through guided instruction, participants at all skill levels learn how to improve face and crack climbing techniques, how to use and care for equipment, the techniques of knot and rope work, and basic belaying and descending. This can help transition climbers from a climbing gym to real rock or even offer the ideal first experience for someone who has never tried rock climbing. A variety of routes and a relaxed atmosphere allow guests to progress at their own pace. For details see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/moab-rock-climbing

All guides are trained and certified by the Association for Canyoneering Education (ACE). They have passed every advanced canyoneering and rescue course ACE has and have customized their knowledge to fit the needs of Moab Adventure Center guests and participants.

About the Moab Adventure Center

Moab Adventure Center is at the epicenter of nature-themed adventure, promising activities that include rafting, jet boating, stand-up paddle boarding, hiking, mountain biking, and hot air ballooning. Hummer safaris, rock climbing, canyoneering, and horseback riding are also very popular. Most of these activities are conducted with experienced guides, an arrangement that helps preclude the kind of damage to the land that can happen when uneducated visitors venture into areas where they shouldn’t be. Guides help people understand where they can move through the backcountry with the least impact possible.

Moab Adventure Center Invites Visitors to Experience Two National Parks While Staying in Moab, Utah

MOAB, UT, July 28, 2022 – Often we’re time-stressed when we go vacation. We’re hoping to leave work and domestic schedules behind and we don’t want to be locked into routines while on holiday.

But resisting making plans can have a downside. We may miss out on the main reasons we’re traveling so far to get somewhere special.

Take a journey to Moab, Utah, for example. This town, distinguished as the gateway to two national wonders, is nestled between the red rock landscape of Arches National Park and the incredible sandstone fantasyland of Canyonlands National Park. The National Forest of the La Sal Mountains overlooks both parks.

A visitor here can be gobsmacked by the beauty and myriad of recreational opportunities; this is especially true when they venture beyond the park borders, adventures that take a degree of pre-planning and scheduling.

“Many travelers are unsure if they should spend the time and money to see both parks. We’re here to tell you it can easily be done. Because they are strikingly different, you're in for two distinct experiences at these two extraordinary parks,” says Sierra Biggs, Manager of the Moab Adventure Center, the go-to place in the region for arranging excursions beyond park borders.

It takes only a few hours to gloss over the surface of the parks on scenic drives. However, Biggs recommends giving each park at least a full day each for some exploring on foot. Following are tours that can be arranged through Moab Adventure Center.

Arches National Park is home to the world's largest concentration of natural sandstone openings that began forming 65 million years ago as sandstone was pushed downwards by salt that was pushing up. Eventually, weather and erosion caused the otherworldly formations that visitors from all over the world travel to see. Moab Adventure Center guides showcase the most accessible of more than 2,000 arches.Arches National Park is much smaller than Canyonlands National Park and more easily accessible for driving and hiking activities. Morning or evening Sunset Arches Tours make it easy to see the most popular sites in Arches without the hassle of driving, navigating and scanning for parking spots. Do-it-yourself visitors can select their own hikes from this list of favorite hikes in Arches National Park.

Canyonlands National Park offers its own sightseeing challenges. It is spectacular for on-own drives; but interacting with this vast landscape is much more difficult than in most National Parks. A must-experience location in Canyonlands isIsland in the Sky District atop a 1,000-foot mesa with beautiful viewpoints that encircle thousands of square miles of incredible canyon country. These views offer the diversely colored landscape of southeastern Utah that many people consider to rival the views of the Grand Canyon. Suggested ways to explore include:

  • By land: Renting a Jeep (with maps provided) will provide access to the many miles of dirt roads that wind around the canyons, buttes and mazes of Canyonlands. You could drive for days on end and get quite lost without proper preparation.
  • By air: Scenic air tours offer a rare bird’s eye view of this most unique landscape.
  • By river: The Colorado River winds through the heart of this landscape, offering views that rival those found in the Grand Canyon. Several Colorado River touroptions offer the very best way to “become one with the landscape” and the powers that carved it.

For more suggestions on how to tour these parks, please see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/moab-national-park-tours

This region anticipates another block-buster season in 2022 after the 2021 season when four of Utah’s five national parks experienced their highest ever visitor numbers. As a result, Arches National Park has implemented a timed entry ticket pilot program that went into effect this spring and continues through early October 2022. This requires that visitors wishing to visit Arches make advance reservations through Recreation.gov. Under a timed entry system, each registered visitor (an individual, couple, group or family is covered under a single booking) will be assigned a one-hour time slot between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time. They will be able to enter the park anytime during that one-hour window.

The timed entry program will not apply to tour operators who have concessions contracts such as Moab Adventure Center. The park will continue to accommodate travelers (even that same day) who book a guided tour through Moab Adventure Center. For details see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/arches-national-park-tours and https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/arches-national-park

“If tourists miss getting a reservation or something unexpected comes up, Moab Adventure Center should be able to get them in as long as we have a scheduled tour operating with space. We are not required to participate in the reservation process and are not limited by the restrictions placed on the public,” Biggs says.

Moab Adventure Center and Rocky Mountaineer Partner-Up to Serve Rockies to Red Rocks Train Passengers

MOAB, UT, June 28, 2022 – Moab Adventure Center is the go-to resource for all outdoor fun in the red rock playground of Moab, Utah. In late spring, Moab Adventure Center announced a partnership with the Canadian company, Rocky Mountaineer, to host train passengers on guided activities while in Moab.

Through years of negotiation and coordination by Rocky Mountaineer, local businesses and authorities, this is the first-everpassenger rail service to run directly into Moab. The trainutilizes the KaneCreek Line rail spur created for the mining industry in Moab. Historically, passenger rail only came within 52 miles of Moab to Green River, but the Kane Creek Line allows train service from Denver through Moab and onward.Rocky Mountaineer launched a preview season of their Rockies to the Red Rocks passenger route in 2021; 2022 is the first full season of Rocky Mountaineer’s only U.S. route -- and guests are loving it.

The itinerary includes overnight stays in Moab at Hyatt Place and Hoodoo Moab by Hilton. The company’s signature glass-domed trains are scheduled for weekly departures on Monday and Thursday. The season for the train began in mid-April and will continue through the end of October 2022.  Rail packages begin from $1375 pp USD. For details, please see https://www.rockymountaineer.com/train-routes/rockies-red-rocks

Moab Adventure Center is providing a centralized guest meeting center at its downtown Moab headquarters. Here the staff assists passengers in selecting from its menu of fun-filled ways to explore Moab. These include rafting in Moab, Arches National Park tours and Off-Road Hummer tours. Passengers are also invited to pre-book these tours or reserve their spaces upon arrival if seats are still available.

“We anticipate that most train guests will arrange to spend one or two extra days in Moab on the front or the back end of their train journey,” said Matthew Jaureguy, Moab Station Manager. The partnership projects 9,000 passengers will enjoy this service in 2022 (up from 7,000 in 2021) and that 50 percent of sales will be generated by travel agents/advisors.

Package options begin with a Rockies to the Red Rocks itinerary that brings guests from Denver westbound to Moab or from Moab eastbound to Denver with one night in a hotel in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

To date, the most popular package offers three hotel nights (one each in Denver, Glenwood Springs, and Moab) as guests journey through two days of extraordinary landscapes with snowcapped mountains, vast canyons, inspiring deserts, natural archways and enchanting hoodoos (tall rock spires). Available in SilverLeaf and SilverLeaf Plus Service, this Rocky Mountaineer rail route is filled with highlights best seen by train, including Ruby Canyon, Mount Garfield and crossing the Continental Divide.

Passengers who want to explore more broadly and deeply can book one of thecarefully curated packages, with options to start or end the journey in Las Vegas or Salt Lake City.

Rocky Mountaineer https://www.rockymountaineer.com/ has a reputation for top-of-its-classluxury rail journeys. Instead of sleeping on the train, the company arranges for guests to overnight at select hotels enrouteso they do not miss a moment of the ever-changing landscapes through oversized train windows.

Rocky Mountaineer Luxury Rail Adventures in addition to Rockies to the Red Rocks include:

  • First Passage to the West: Vancouver-Kamloops-Banff/Lake Louise. This is the company’s most popular route through the Canadian Rockies, famous for connecting Canada’s East and West.
  • Journey through the Clouds: Vancouver-Kamloops-Jasper.  Witness the unparalleled beauty of the highest peaks in the Canadian Rockies and the remote vistas of Canada's West.
  • Rainforest to Gold RushVancouver-Whistler-Quesnel-Jasper. Carve through extreme landscapes like BC's coastal rainforest, the rugged Fraser Canyon, and the historic Cariboo gold rush region enroute to the Canadian Rockies.

Rocky Mountaineer has long had the goal of expanding their routes so they could bring their world-class experience to showcase new destinations. The Canadian company sought a well-respected an experienced local operation based in Moab, Utah, as its partner, and one that could provide a full service, explained Jaureguy. "We view this option as a great alternative to a road trip via an automobile. Our guests add to the economy of Moab with shopping, dining, lodging and activity tours while in town, with lower overall impact than the car-based tourist.”

Play Like a Local - 10 Tips to Make the Most of Your Visit to Moab, Utah

MOAB, UT, Feb. 23, 2022 – Locals who live in Moab, Utah, know how to get the most fun out of this red rock playground they call home. Referred to by many as the “Adventure Capital of the World”, Moab is the gateway to the mighty Colorado River and two iconic treasures: Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

When visitors want to play like a local, the hot tip is to pay a visit to the Moab Adventure Center on South Main Street, a one-stop shop for all adventure-related activities and advice. Drawing from their years of experience, they offer this shortlist of what to do, exclusive of wining, dining and shopping, guaranteed to make one feel a connection to a place that is unlike any other vacation destination on earth.

Insider’s Top Tips Include:

1.   Rafting for the Day on the Colorado River –One of the most popular activities in Moab is rafting on the Colorado River immersed in the world-famous scenery of Castle Valley. Visitors have plenty of choices from morning or mid-day trips, but a full day of rafting offers the most bang for the buck and can even include a riverside BBQ picnic.

2.   A Sunset Evening Hummer Safari – In the evening, everything in Moab turns a deeper shade of red, or pink or orange as the sun sets slowly in the west. A Sunset Hummer Safari posits locals and visitors alike in the epi-center of this kaleidoscope of colors while sitting comfortably in a rock-steady Hummer driven by expert guides over some of the most unique terrain on the planet. The Hells Revenge Trail is perhaps the most famous 4x4 trail in the world and certainly one of the most popular things to do in Moab.

3.   Going Deep with Canyoneering Hiking is one of the most compelling activities in Moab and can lead to hidden grottoes, arches and rare creek-side trails. Many take the trek up Grandstaff Canyon for a little shade and desert greenery along a beautiful stream. But most people just hike up and back from the trailhead missing the best adventure. Taking the route a step further can lead to the top edge of Grandstaff Canyon and a classic Moab canyoneering adventure. After harnessing up with experienced guides and ropes, you rappel into Ephedra’s Grotto and then over the massive Morning Glory Natural Bridge.

4.   Touring Arches National Park You can’t make a trip to Moab, Utah, and not see Arches National Park. Many of the park’s iconic features are easily explored just off the highway with guided van tour, or, like the locals, you can drive on your own providing you secure an entry permit months in advance. Some advantages to a guided Arches tour include taking your hands off the wheel so you can look at the odd scenery instead of the line of bumpers in front of you.

5.   Riding the Moab Zip Line Zipline tours are always a lot of fun no matter where you are, but where else can locals and visitors alike soar like a raven from sandstone ledges, domes and fins across a wide-open desert rimmed by snow-capped mountains? A rowdy 4x4 ride up the mountainside brings adventurers above the town of Moab and to the rim of a whole different landscape.

6.   Hiking and Rock Climbing to Fisher TowersThese soaring towers rise nearly 1,000 feet above the desert floor yet blend in almost imperceptibly from certain viewpoints among Castle Valley below. Rock climbing is a very popular thing to do in Moab, and the Fisher Towers ascents offer expert climbers a challenging and rewarding view. Just hiking the undulating trail at the base of the towers is awe-inspiring -- no need for ropes to get an amazing view here! The way the place glows at sunset and the silhouette of iconic rock castles in the valley below will really make you feel like you’ve been someplace worthy of being called “The Wild West”.

7.   Driving to the Overlook at Dead Horse Point– Locals advise that soaking up the vast view at this easily accessible overlook in the morning or evening sunlight is one of Moab’s best experiences. The goosenecks of the Colorado River roll tranquilly hundreds of feet below as the river approaches the deeper labyrinth of gorges in Canyonlands National Park, including Cataract Canyon.  Savvy locals also hop on their mountain bikes to ride the trails that traverse the rim of the Dead Horse Point area. Visitors may opt for guided mountain bike tours or do-it-yourself jeep rentals.

8.   Relaxing at the Moab Aquatic & Rec Center While Mother Nature offers so much to see and do in the Moab area, locals and visitors alike enjoy the Moab Aquatic & Recreation Center, also known as the MRAC, a local hub for fitness and leisure activities. Think two outdoor pools, an indoor pool and slide, a fitness center and fitness classes.

9.   Visiting The Original Jurassic Park More than dinosaur bones and footprints, the Moab Giants Dinosaur Park and Tracks Museum will make dinosaurs seem alive again. This interactive dinosaur park framed by Jurassic rock layers is a must-revisit when locals entertain friends and families. Think Dinosaur Trail, Dig it Out at the Dino Playground, the Paleo Camp and the 5-D virtual aquarium.

      10.    Golfing in Moab Golf courses can’t get much more scenic than the       Moab Golf Course. Smooth vivid greens contrast against craggy red   cliffs to make for a stunning 18-      hole,  par 72 day.

Moab Adventure Center Provides the Perfect Winter Activities in Utah’s Arches and Canyonlands National Parks

MOAB, UT, Jan. 19, 2022 – Even in the winter, the rocks can feel warm to the touch as they absorb the sunshine that kisses the world-renowned, red rock playground of Moab, Utah. Here, precipitation of rain or snow visits fewer than 60 days a year. Come December, locals and visitors alike button up their overcoats against daytime temperatures that dip into the 40s.

While campsites are closed for the winter season, in and around Moab comfortable lodging remains open as do a variety of dining options. And everyone’s friend and go-to resource, Moab Adventure Center (https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/), continues to welcome queries about what’s to see and do in the short off-season between now and early March. Come spring the region once again prepares itself to meet the demands of a world hungry for wholesome, outdoor recreation.

But for those who can’t wait until spring, Moab Adventure Center has the following recommendations for enjoying winter get-aways in this vast expanse of geologic history unique in the world.

Two, three, and four-hour Hummer Safari tours are available beginning in February. Rates range from $98 to $215 per person depending on the off-road excursion. All safaris are conducted in comfortable 4x4 off-road vehicles. Your driver adds meaning to the spectacular canyon vistas and stops along the way.

Arches National Park tours are conducted year-round by land or air. Land tours are four hours longand air tours range from 30 minutes to one hour. On the land tours guests have an opportunity for short hikes to phenomenal vistas of famous arches.

Air tours reveal the following regions: Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park, and a new flight that allows visitors to capture spectacular vistas of Capitol Reef National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park.

Local experts recommend first visiting the Moab Giants Dinosaur Park & Tracks (interactive) Museum. A Dinosaur Discovery Tour reveals Moab as the original Jurassic park. The surroundingexpanse comprised of Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park invites the curious to ponder where those ancient creatures might have ambled and foraged. Note that the Dinosaur Park will reopen for the season on Feb. 18.

Hiking Arches National Park is a year-round, four-hour morning tour for hikers exploring this ancientplateau concealing more than 2,000 natural arches, representing the highest concentration of such wonders on the planet.

Throughout the year guests can rent four-door Jeep Wranglers so they can do their own exploring of the region. The jeeps hold up to five people and can be rented for 10.5 hours.

Moab Adventure Center has been exploring the rivers and canyons surrounding Moab since 1961 as Western River Expeditions, pioneers in the river rafting industry. Western River created the Moab Adventure Center to give this “Adventure Capital of the West” its full due with a focus on day tours and adventures in unparalleled red rock beauty, and to become a convenient one-stop adventurecenter in world famous Moab.

Through the late winter season, Moab Adventure Center recommends tapping into http://udottraffic.utah.gov to see real-time road conditions across Utah.

To Improve Visitor Experience, Utah’s Arches National Park Introduces Timed-Entry Program

An enhancement to the park experience will also pose new challenges to the traveling public

MOAB, UT, Jan. 11, 2022 – The New Year will introduce new admission protocols to benefit visitors to Arches National Park in Moab, Utah.

Experts predict this change will help relieve overcrowding and deliver an improved park experience for visitors. It will also create new challenges for travelers who now need to plan further ahead to be assured entry on the day and time of their choice.

This world-renowned, red rock playground is one of the most popular National Parks in North America. Visitation grew to new heights in the 2021 season, the busiest year on record. Many people had to wait hours in line before being admitted. Others were turned away altogether and asked to come back the next day.

One option for securing a visit to Arches involves making advance reservations through Recreation.gov. Under a timed entry system, each registered visitor (an individual, couple, group or family is covered under a single booking) will be assigned a one-hour time slot between 6 a.m. and 5 p.m. local time. They will be able to enter the park anytime during that one-hour window.

The new timed-entry program will run from April 3 to Oct. 3, 2022. Reservations will open three months in advance. For example, visitors who hoped to go to the park in April needed to reserve a slot beginning Jan. 3, 2022. There will also be small numbers of last-minute tickets made available every day for the following day, since not everyone is able to plan their visit so far ahead.

Another good strategy is to leave the car behind and arrange to visit the park under the guidance of a professional tour operator. Moab Adventure Center, the go-to hub for all things adventure in the region, has arranged guided tours throughout the season and is not limited by these new restrictions. This will be a benefit for those who aren’t able to plan their park visit so far in advance.

“Overall, we are very excited about the new system, and the changes it will bring. With the new system, the aim is to reduce the lines to get into the park, further enhancing the experiencefor everyone. The timed-entry system shouldkeep the crowds at a manageable level at each point of interest,as well asparking lotsand trailheads, making parking and access much more available and predictable,” said Cort Wright, Moab Adventure Center Manager.

The timed entry program will not apply to tour operators who have concessions contracts such as Moab Adventure Center. The park will continue to accommodate travelers (even that same day) who book a guided tour through Moab Adventure Center. For details see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/arches-national-park-tours and https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/arches-national-park.

“If tourists miss getting a reservation or something unexpected comes up, Moab Adventure Centerwill always be able to get them in as long as we have a scheduled tour operating. We are not required to participate in the reservation process and are not limited by the restrictions placed on the public,” Wright added.

Wright recommended the following tours for first-time and repeat visitors to the region:

  • Arches National Park Sunset Discovery -This is a four-hour guided tour in a van with extra wide and tall windows for premium viewing. The rate of $105per person ($85ages 5-13) includes numerous stops, snacks, water and park entrance fees plus the inclusion of short, scenic hikes enroute. https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/arches-natinal-park-tours-sunset

“In addition to not having to worry about advance reservations or having to enter the park at an assigned hour, these guided tours have several other benefits. Our guests love the fact that they can sit back and enjoy the ride, taking in every view out the window vs. having to pay attention to roads and traffic. Guests also appreciate learning about the history and geology of the area from an experienced guide. It’s really a great way to see Arches National Park,” Wright explained.

Moab Adventure Center (https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/) is a division of Western River Expeditions (http://www.westernriver.com/) an adventure travel company headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah with operations and offices in Moab and Fredonia, AZ. Moab Adventure Center Introduces New Scenic Air Tour Capitol Reef and Bryce Canyon National Parks

Moab Adventure Center, the go-to for all things adventurous in the Red Rock playground of Moab, Utah, is excitedto announce a brand newflyover of one of Earth’s most intriguing geological displays of an ancient past.

The 2.5-hour flyover reveals the drama of how Earth played her cards for posterity in three distinct, publicly acclaimed regions: Bryce Canyon National Park, Capitol Reef National Park, andGrand Staircase Escalante National Monument.  Please see  https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/bryce-canyon-air-tour

Scenic flight pilots, known as “Air Guides,” point out the very best views the landscape can offer:

  • Bryce Canyon, an incredible scenic spectacle. The park is a vast showcase of colorful rock pinnacles and spires, known as “hoodoos,” which rise from a series of natural amphitheaters stretching across the Paunsaugunt Plateau. The view of these hoodoos, which are seemingly every shape and size, is breathtaking for all visitors, no matter if it is their first or 100th time in the park. Many formations bear fanciful names such as “The Poodle,” “Queen Victoria” and the park’s most notable hoodoo, “Thor’s Hammer.”
  • Capitol Reef National Park, a hidden treasure filled with cliffs, canyons, domes and bridges in the Waterpocket Fold, a geologic monocline (a wrinkle on the earth) 65 million years old that extends almost 100 miles long and six miles wide.
  • The Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument, a series of plateaus that descend from Bryce Canyon south toward the Grand Canyon, marked by vertical drops at the Pink Cliffs, Grey Cliffs, White Cliffs, Vermillion Cliffs and Chocolate Cliffs. This area boasts a mixture of colorful sandstone cliffs soaring above narrow slot canyons, picturesque washes and seemingly endless slickrock, prehistoric village sites and abandoned old Western movie sets.

The per-person rates are adult (13+) $349 and youth (3-12) $175. There is no charge for ages 2 and under. Guests are guaranteed a window seat and flight headset during the tour.  The flight that departs year-round from Canyonlands Field Airport in Moab encompasses 337 miles at an average speed of 150 miles per hour.

Moab Adventure Center offers the following additional air tours:
