Sports Tours International Heralds World’s Wackiest and Most Unusual Marathons Including in Petra, Myanmar and Nepal

MANCHESTER, UK, June 21, 2018– Sports Tours International creates opportunities for marathoners to sprint in such far-flung places as Petra and Myanmar, and to run and recreate in France -- with wine in hand.

Sports Tours International (https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/) organizes entry fees and accommodation packages for off-the-beaten path, mainstream and sometimes downright quirky international running events.  The company assists with airport transfers, transport to and from race sites for both competitors and their companions, accommodations and more. Here are a few of the company’s favorites when it comes to exotic and unusual.

July 1, 2018 Marathon du Mont Blanc, France takes place when the snow melts in Chamonix, ski capital of France and running mecca.  Competitors and their guests may obtain a three or four-night vacation package to enjoy the events beginning June 29. With the travel package comes guaranteed entry into the 42km, Cross (23km), 90 km and the Vertical km events. 2018 entries are closed; however, interested runners can sign up to receive information regarding the 2019 event. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/mont-blanc-marathon/

September 1, 2018 Petra Desert Marathon, Jordan is a four-night program (beginning Aug. 30) including a marathon or half-marathon in a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This challenging desert marathon winds through Jordan’s red sandstone landscape, including past ancient monasteries carved into the mountains.  Extras in this tour package are a starlit celebration dinner and awards ceremony, a guided walking tour of Petra, visa assistance, services of an English-speaking guide, entry pass for three days in Petra, a dip in the Red Sea and some meals. A tour of landmarks (including Bedouin music and lore), a cooking class and a visit to a spa or Turkish bath are optional. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/petra-desert-marathon/

September 8, 2018 Medoc Marathon, France is a mix of costumed runners hoofing it through the vineyards, cheered on by equally colourful spectators in the wings. This year’s theme is “Amusement Park.” The field accommodates 8,500 runners. For this wackiest and booziest marathon, Sports Tours International offers two, three and four-night packages. Guests lodge in a 19th century mansion and explore the city of Bordeaux. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/medoc-marathon/

Sports Tours International Rolls Out June UK Running Festival – Tour of Tameside near Manchester

MANCHESTER, UK, May 8, 2018– Runners of all ability levels are invited to sprint through time near a Bronze Age burial mound, a 5th century Roman ditch and the ruins of a 12th century castle in a four-day running festival June 14-17, the Tour of Tameside, in Tameside near Manchester, UK.

Sports Tours International (https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/) as the host of the June 14-17, 2018, Tour of Tameside can sort out all of the entry and travel arrangements for this annual celebration of running expected to draw hundreds of international aficionados this early summer. This is just one of a series of events owned and operated by Sports Tours International that specializes in helping runners and cyclists gain entry to coveted global competitions.

“We don’t just take runners to events around the world; we organise events ourselves and our expertise shows. Here at Sports Tours International we live and breathe sport,” said the company’s Head of Product and Operations Alex de Waard, from offices in Manchester, minutes from Tameside. He notes that that there are direct flights from North America to Manchester, the UK’s second largest city.

A variety of running routes and terrains on roads and hills will challenge participants physically and mentally, with all stages carefully chosen to be achievable for runners of all abilities. The Tour of Tameside, founded in 1983 by Olympian and marathon legend Ron Hill, was re-energized when Sports Tours International took over the reins. This running event has been called “The Ultimate Running Challenge.”

The Tour of Tameside begins with a 10k cross-country run on the eve of June 14. The trail takes in two superb local country parks and a variety of running terrain including a steep gradient and long flats on surfaces ranging from tarmac to cobblestones to woodchip paths. A six-mile Hell on the Fell Race is held on June 15 with an evening start that pits runner against the landscape, taking on the steep climb and steep descent – a guaranteed challenge for all ability levels. It ends later that night with a ceremony crowning the male, female and age category winners. The Hero Half Marathon has a mid-morning start on June 16. Runners will cover the 13.1 mile half marathon journey on a trail that parallels a disused railway line. The Tour of Tameside’s finale is the Dr. Ron Hyde 7-Mile Race on the morning of June 17. Afterwards, all runners and their guests will retire into Hyde Town Hall for the post-race presentation ceremony and to toast the four days of running.

Sports Tours International suggests that after this excitement in Tameside concludes that runners and their companions tag on a break to Edinburgh and Scotland in the north, explore Britain’s beautiful Lake District or scoot on down to London.

Sports Tours International - Pros at Securing Packages and Entry for Runners In Prestigious 2018 BMW Berlin Marathon

MANCHESTER, UK, April 25, 2018– The sports world has created a new breed of migratory bird. These are flocks of male and female marathon runners who descend annually on six international marathons (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City). While it may be just the elites chasing the cash prizes, everyone else is after the Six Star Finisher Medal given to those amateurs who challenge and accomplish all six of the majors. See: https://www.worldmarathonmajors.com/everyday-champions/six-star-finishers/.

This series is the ultimate challenge for those who want to experience an amazing achievement in fascinating cities. But one city stands out from the crowd. More marathon records have been established in Berlin than any of the other majors.

In past years nearly 75,000 runners in one year alone requested to enter the BMW Berlin Marathon in a field limited to 40,000, advised Sports Tours International https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/.

To assure that every marathoner fulfills the dream of joining the Berlin field, Sports Tours International guarantees entry to marathons requiring individual entries. The company also arranges a variety of inclusive accommodations packages for competitors and for non-running visitors who want to track the drama of such stars as Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge who won the BMW Berlin Marathon in 2017.

This marathon, famous for being flat and fast, started in the Grunewald forest in 1974 and moved to West Berlin in 1981. Over recent years the BMW Berlin Marathon has provided nine world records, including Dennis Kimetto's marathon world record of 2:02:57 in Berlin in 2014. The female course record 2:19:12 was set here in 2005.

The September 16, 2018 BMW Berlin Marathon starts and finishes on Strasse des 17, running past the magnificent Angel of Peace statue and through the Tiergarten district before continuing past the Reichstag at 7Km and the Berliner Dom at 9Km. The field begins to spread out and the race begins to move along quickly where runners can start picking up speed and pace at 12Km while passing the lovely fountain at Strausberger Platz.

The crowds continue to pick up as does the noise, and it’s all supplemented with more than 60 bands lining the route. The course is one big sightseeing loop through one of the most exciting cities in the world.

Guaranteed entries are available with travel packages through Sports Tours International. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/berlin-marathon/

Sports Tours International’s BMW Berlin Marathon tour packages for competitors and visitors feature:

  • Guaranteed entry into the marathon (£130 per entry)
  • 3/4/5 nights at a choice of excellent, centrally located hotels

Sports Tours International Anticipates Banner Year for Amateur Cyclists Thanks to Appeal of Cyclo Sportives and Gran Fondos

MANCHESTER, UK, April 19, 2018 – Cyclo sportives and Gran Fondos are lengthy, challenging, mass participation cycling events that follow the same routes conquered by professional racers. Participating in one provides the opportunity to ride on some of the most notable and legendary climbs and descents in competitive cycling history.

Sports Tours International (https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/) offers travel and support packages to ride in a wide variety of the world’s finest cyclo sportive and Gran Fondo events. They secure entries for many annually over-subscribed events including perennial favorites such as La Marmotte, Maratona d les Dolomites and L’ Etape du Tour. These are also quite popular with North Americans looking to combine a cycling event with a European vacation.

L'Étape du Tour 2018 on July 8 is the only cyclo sportive that allows amateur riders to test themselves on closed roads on the exact same route as a Tour de France stage. It is almost always in the Pyrenees or the Alps and often falls on a Tour rest day so it makes a great highlight in any trip to follow Tour de France’s mountain stages. L'Étape du Tour 2018 takes in stage 10 of the Tour de France, Annecy to Le Grand Bornand in the Alps. Riding out from Lake Annecy will be 15,000 cyclists on a 169km route that takes in Col de la Croix Fry, Col de Romme and an unusual gravel section. The finish is at Le Grand-Bornand, a resort in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France.

Riders and guests will enjoy a festival of cycling over the weekend in Annecy, an alpine town known for canals and cobbled streets. Sports Tours International’s L'Étape du Tour2018 four-day/three-night tour package includes guaranteed entry. The company is one of only a handful of operators who can guarantee entry to the event. The package includes accommodations at a range of hotels, round trip airport transfers from Geneva, overland bike transfer, bike rental and storage, complimentary coach accommodations for traveling companions to witness the excitement, three breakfasts, and, depending on the hotel, three dinners, staff support along the race course and more. Per person, double occupancy rates begin at £549and go up to £699 for four-star accommodations. Self-drive packages are also available. While guaranteed, an additional cost is the actual entry fee to L'Étape du Tour2018. For non-riders, a free coach from Annecy to the finish in Le Grand Bornand is offered with return to Annecy later in the day. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/event-categories/etape-du-tour/

La Marmotte Gran Fondo (French) Alps also on July 8 is an extremely tough event for the 8,500 riders. This is a 170km alpine climbing bonanza between Bourg d’Oisans and Alpe d’Huez with 5,000m of climbing. The event does not take place on closed roads but there are rolling road closures. The Marmotte is a firm favorite for foreign riders with the field containing just 20% French riders. There are no cut off points enroute.  Packages similar to L'Étape du Tour2018 are available. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/la-marmotte/

2018 Maratona dles Dolomites on July 1 exemplifies closed road Italian Gran Fondo riding at its very best. This event with 8,500 riders is one of the toughest cycling events around, tough not for distance (138km) but for the amount of climbing packed into the route. The climbs are steeper, in general, than both the Alps and Pyrenees! Participants and guests lodge in the Alta Badia area for seven or four nights. Most hotels are on a half board basis with breakfasts and dinners included. Some have spa and wellness facilities.Packages similar to L'Étape du Tour2018 are available. See https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/maratona-dles-dolomites/

Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on July 29 forms part of the London 2012 Olympics legacy events for cycling. This is an opportunity to cycle on closed roads around London’s many landmarks and into the county of Surrey. Most importantly for cyclo sportive riders is riding a route that replicates much of the 2012 Olympics Road Race course. Some 20,000 riders are anticipated. The new Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46-mile distance event takes place on the same day as the 100, setting off after all the “100” riders have departed. This is ideal for those wanting the RideLondon experience, without the stress of riding 100 miles. Climbs on Leith Hill and Box Hill on this ride aren’t meant to replicate the exertion it takes to climb in the Alps. The race returns to Central London for a finish on The Mall. Sports Tours International Presents Line-up of International Spring Marathons Open to Serious Runners of all Abilities

MANCHESTER, UK, April 16, 2018– Sports Tours International lays a world of marathons at runners’ feet in Spring 2018. This UK company’s resources stand ready to link competitive runners with such major marathon hot spots as London, Paris and Rome as well as a few more unusual ones such as The Great Wall of China, Everest Basecamp and Stockholm.

“We are on track in 2018 for our most successful year ever with a big rise in bookings across both the spring and autumn marathon seasons,” reports the company. Here’s the line-up of upcoming events to consider.

April 22, 2018 London Marathon is one of the most popular, competitive and over-subscribed running events in the world.  Sports Tours International does not offer entries to the London marathon but does offer accommodation packages for runners and friends with staff support and transport to the start of the race. A two-night weekend includes city center accommodation, a hotel reception, coach for runners only to the start, and more. This London event represents one of the six races in the coveted Abbott World Marathon Majors. This series includes Berlin, Tokyo, Boston, Chicago and New York City. See https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/london-marathon/

May 19, 2018 Great Wall (of China) Marathon dating to 1998 is now one of the most popular adventure marathons, with runners conquering 5,164 steps on the Great Wall. Sport Tours International offers guaranteed entry to a choice of three events: marathon, half marathon or 8.5k fun run. The company also offers a choice of hotels for five or six nights, airport transfers and optional sightseeing tours. The Great Wall marathon takes place on a highly varied course including a narrow “goat” trail, small villages and, of course, the Great Wall itself. May 29, 2018 Tenzing Hillary Everest Marathon, the 15th annual, is the world’s highest marathon stretching from Everest Basecamp to Namche Bazaar. This adventure, first held for locals in 2003, now has an international reputation with runners from over 20 nations. A three-week commitment includes four nights in Kathmandu, a 14-day trek to the Everest Basecamp where runners have a few days to acclimatize accompanied by expert local guides and a full support crew including doctors. The downhill route leads through rough tracks and trails, traveling through the homeland of the Sherpa people. A marathon package includes accommodation, airport transfers and internal flights, guided sightseeing in Kathmandu and services of an English-speaking leader, among others. Sweden’s capital offers a relatively gentle marathon course which attracts 7,000 international runners from 100 countries looking for a personal best at a large event. There are hundreds of thousands of spectators along the route cheering on the thousands of marathon runners. Stockholm is one of the world’s most beautiful capitals, built on an archipelago of 14 islands around the medieval city center. Stockholm is one third water, one third green belt and one third city. The city is compact, allowing runners and guests to squeeze in a great weekend of sightseeing and culture in addition to the marathon. A marathon expo and pasta party precede marathon day. The event finishes in the 1912 Olympic stadium. Sports Tours International offers a three-night getaway inclusive accommodation and the option to buy a guaranteed entry into the marathon. And while it’s not 100 percent confirmed, Tom Dumoulin (last year’s winner), a Dutch rider for UCI WorldTeam, might also be riding.

Plus, adding to the sizzle, providing that he can overcome controversies that have recently engulfed him, 2017 Tour de France champ Chris Froome, age 33, a Brit racing for Team Sky,will tackle this unpredictable and wily course for the first time since 2010.

In addition to this eleven day trip is an eight day optionin the Alps, Giro d'Italia 2018 - The Final 7 Days, focusing on Stage 19 that features the Colle delle Finestre, the highest climb – think 55 hairpins on a gravel surface -- of the Giro d’Italia, which stands at a grueling 2178m. The penultimate stage is from Susa to Cervinia, where the general classification will be confirmed. The per person double rate is from £1,959.00 and is offered May 21-28, 2018.

A Giro d'Italia 2018 - Zoncolan Weekend package is offered May 18-21 over four days and three nights, from £729.00 per person double. This is a great opportunity to spend a weekend at the toughest climb in professional cycling, the Monte Zoncolan.
