Its postcard-perfect desert is adorned with giant sandstone formations, canyon mazes, rock spires, hoodoos and fins plus thousands of natural arches. The Colorado River flows past its northern border and several national and state parks are accessible from Moab.  Between the red rock wonders of Arches National Park, the incredible sandstone landscapes of Canyonlands National Park, and the cool forests of the La Sal Mountains, Moab offers endless opportunity for sight-seeing and exploration.

The town, with a resident population of just 5,000 swells to two to three times that in the popular spring to fall recreation season. Through the experts at MAC visitors can find great accommodation choices with dozens of hotels in Moab, condos, campgrounds and RV parks throughout Moab’s southwestern-style Main Street area.

Area Attractions

  • Arches National Park

Arches National Park preserves over two thousand natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations. In some areas, faulting has exposed millions of years of geologic history. The extraordinary features of the park, including balanced rocks, fins and pinnacles, are highlighted by a striking environment of contrasting colors, landforms and textures.

  • Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park preserves a colorful landscape of sedimentary sandstones eroded into countless canyons, mesas and buttes by the Colorado River and its tributaries. the park sits in a vast basin bordered by sheer cliffs of Wingate Sandstone.

  • Dead Horse Point State Park

Located about 25 miles from Moab, Dead Horse Point is a popular destination for a day-trip. The central feature of the park is the spectacular vista that opens up as you stand on the edge of a 2,000 cliff overlooking Canyonlands National Park.

  • Manti-La Sal National Forest and Mountains

Along the eastern Utah border near Moab, the La Sal Mountains rise 12,721 feet above sea level. This part of the Forest provides climatic relief to the desert of the Colorado River Plateau. Narrow forest roads lead travelers to the high mountain passes, and into narrow canyons like Dark Canyon where the crystalline rock structure of the peaks is exposed for all to see or into Mill Creek where Oowah Lake sparkles as a small jewel amid spruce trees.

What to Do in Moab

Bordering town, the mighty Colorado skirts Arches National Park and cuts through the heart of Canyonlands National Park. Nearby, the historic and beautiful Green River carves its serpentine path through canyons deeper than the Grand Canyon. Trips range from mild-to-wild one-day and half-day excursions to multi-day rafting vacations. The Moab Adventure Center has information, continuous big-screen videos and special pricing. Advance reservations are suggested. See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/rafting

Moab’s celebrated “canyonlands” is a postcard-perfect desert adorned with immense sandstone formations. Here, amazing red-rock terrain has eroded into canyon mazes, arches, spires and buttes. A 4x4 vehicle is perhaps the best way for people of all ages to experience the rugged beauty of this vast back country, and the vehicle which offers the most safety, comfort and exceptional climbing ability is unquestionably the Hummer®. Moab’s must-do hike is the maze-like Fiery Furnace in Arches National Park. The hike twists and turns among contorted orange-tan fins, towers, spires and arches. Moab Adventure Center guides/naturalists lead two-hour hikes in this trackless area, pointing out hidden attractions such as Surprise and Twin Arches. Although the walk/hike is moderately strenuous in places, it can be enjoyed by anyone in reasonably good physical condition. A brief tour of the Park is provided along with the hike. See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/activities/hiking.php

Many cyclists first heard about Moab when word spread about the Moab Slickrock Trail which loops through an expanse of rippled, undulating sandstone resembling a frozen, orange ocean. Although the Slickrock may be the nation’s most famous fat-tire route, there are dozens of other rock-and-mountain roads and trails. Rides range from a few hours to three or four days. Even novice riders can sign up for relatively level, easy terrain. The Moab Adventure Center has several guided trips and information. See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/biking

The sheer magnificence of the several state and national parks and monuments surrounding Moab can best be appreciated from the airborne perspective of an eagle. In just an hour or two of flight-seeing, you can experience all of Canyonlands National Park, including the sculptured, red-rock canyons of the Colorado and Green rivers. Comfortable and reliable Cessna aircraft provide window seating for each passenger. A detailed flight map and stereo headsets facilitate interpretation.  See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/flights

For those that have done it, they say it is like nothing else. The ride is smooth and tranquil in a balloon as you fly with the wind, rather than through it like fixed wing planes. With no fixed route or determined flight path, each balloon ride is a true adventure. Add to these sensations the thrill of an undulating desert floor rising and falling below you in dramatic sheer cliffs, spires, and gaping canyon country as far as the early morning light extends.  See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/hot-air-balloon-rides-moab-utah/

Venture into the Wild West with gentle cowboy-trained quarter horses. Guided by a professional wrangler, you'll explore the trails made famous by John Wayne himself. New tack and equipment will make your ride as comfortable as can be. So saddle-up and take a trek into the horizon of Moab. One of the best horseback rides can be found through Castle Creek Canyon with views of towering cliffs and famous Castle Rock.  See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/horseback

Visitors who “like to have it their way” can now call the shots on what they see and do in the area. The center’s custom tour program now puts all of this region’s ways and means of touring at the disposal of guests who prefer private travel over pre-set itineraries and group travel. Plans can be made in advance of arrival or on the spot. See: http://moabadventurecenter.com/trips/private-tours/

Five Reasons to Give Thanks for Moab This Season and Why Spring & Summer 2026 Are Already in Demand

As November draws to a close and holiday travelers reflect on the year, Moab Adventure Center is sharing five compelling reasons to be grateful for one of America’s most awe-inspiring destinations. Late fall in Moab offers quieter trails, glowing red-rock sunsets, and peaceful desert air, yet it also marks the moment when many travelers begin securing their Spring and Summer 2026 adventures before peak-season tours sell out.

“November is one of the most magical times in Moab,” says Amanda Moore, General Manager at Moab Adventure Center. “The colors are softer, the parks are calmer, and every hour of daylight feels like a gift. At the same time, we’re seeing more families, couples, and returning guests planning further ahead, booking their must-do Moab experiences now for next spring and summer. It’s become one of the smartest ways to see the region at its best.”

Five Reasons to Give Thanks for Moab This Season

1. Sunsets That Stop You in Your Tracks

Moab’s sandstone glows with deep oranges and rose gold hues in late November. On Arches National Park Sunset Tours, travelers watch the desert transform into a canvas of color, often with only a handful of people at each viewpoint.

2. Scenic Drives That Invite You to Take the Long Way

With crisp air and golden late-afternoon light, November is ideal for wandering Moab’s backroads. Scenic drives along Highway 128, Dead Horse Point, or Island in the Sky unfold at an unhurried pace—inviting visitors to pull over often, breathe deeply, and savor the sweeping canyon vistas.

3. Wildlife Sightings That Feel Personal

With fewer visitors in the parks, mule deer, desert bighorn sheep, and soaring raptors often feel more visible—offering guests intimate glimpses of Moab’s wilder side.

4. Adventures That Inspire Courage and Connection

Whether climbing slickrock in a Hummer, rappelling into hidden canyons, or biking through wide-open desert views, November’s cool temps make outdoor thrills even more inviting—guided by seasoned experts who help guests push their limits with confidence.

5. A Stillness You Can Feel in Your Bones

Late fall delivers some of the quietest moments of the year. Stand beneath Delicate Arch at dusk or along the Colorado River at sunrise, and you’ll feel what locals call “desert silence”—a grounding reminder of what really matters.

What Visitors Can Still Experience in November

Even in the final days of the month, travelers can enjoy:

These late-season tours offer a rare chance to experience Moab’s iconic landscapes with added serenity.

Why Travelers Are Already Booking Spring & Summer 2026

Moab Adventure Center notes that early bookings are already trending ahead of previous years, particularly for marquee experiences with limited daily departures. Factors driving early reservations include:

  • Mild, photogenic conditions in April–June
  • Families planning Spring Break and summer vacations now
  • Increasing demand for Hummer Safaris and Arches National Park tours
  • High sell-out rates for river rafting, especially Cataract Canyon and Westwater Canyon trips
  • Travelers seeking bucket-list “one big adventure” trips

“Guests want to make the most of their time in Moab,” Moore adds. “Many are discovering that booking early guarantees access to the experiences they’ve been dreaming about.”

Moab Adventure Center Launches “Adventures by Age” Guide to Simplify Family Travel Planning

Finding an outdoor adventure that excites a five-year-old as much as a seventy-five-year-old just got easier. Moab Adventure Center, recently named one of Newsweek’s Best Whitewater Rafting Companies in the U.S., has unveiled its new “Adventures by Age” Guide—a helpful planning resource designed to help families, friend groups and multigenerational travelers choose the perfect mix of thrill, discovery, and connection in Utah’s red-rock paradise.

“Families want more than screen-free time. They want shared victories,” said Amanda Moore, General Manager of Moab Adventure Center. “When a child rappels for the first time or grandparents conquer Hell’s Revenge in a Hummer, you can see generations connect powerful ways.”

Adventures Tailored to Every Age and Energy Level

The Moab Adventures by Age Guide organizes dozens of Moab’s most iconic outdoor experiences by minimum age requirement and adventure intensity. Travelers can easily build an itinerary that fits everyone—from first-time explorers to adrenaline-loving teens.

Highlights include:

The guide also spotlights multi-adventure combinations, like pairing a scenic Arches National Park Tour with a Sunset Hummer Safari or joining a river trip with canyoneering and rock climbing for a “Moab Sampler” experience.

“Many of our guests are first-time visitors who want to see everything in one trip,” Moore explained. “We created this guide to make planning effortless, so families can focus on creating memories instead of managing logistics.”

Meeting the Rise of Multigenerational and Experience-Based Travel

Adventure travel among families has surged since 2020, with multigenerational vacations now one of the fastest-growing segments of the global travel industry. According to the Adventure Travel Trade Association, more than 60% of travelers now prioritize shared experiences over traditional sightseeing. Moab Adventure Center’s curated approach directly addresses that demand—combining expert guidance, safety, and variety with the simplicity of one-stop booking.

Guests can explore more than two dozen guided activities ranging from rafting and off-roading to scenic flights, horseback riding and hot-air ballooning. Each tour is led by trained, certified guides who provide expert instruction, storytelling and environmental education—key ingredients behind the company’s 7,000+ five-star reviews across Google, TripAdvisor and Yelp.

Making Family Adventure Effortless

Moab Adventure Center’s commitment to ease and excellence sets it apart. Its downtown hub, located minutes from Arches and Canyonlands National Parks, offers free parking, climate-controlled transport and complimentary reusable water bottles for all guests. Every detail—from gear and permits to meals and transportation—is handled seamlessly by staff known for their professionalism and warmth.

“It’s one thing to offer great adventures,” Moore added. “It’s another to make them effortless for every age, from the littlest explorers to their grandparents. That’s the true spirit of Moab.”
