Area Attractions

  • Arches National Park

Arches National Park preserves over two thousand natural sandstone arches, including the world-famous Delicate Arch, in addition to a variety of unique geological resources and formations. In some areas, faulting has exposed millions of years of geologic history. The extraordinary features of the park, including balanced rocks, fins and pinnacles, are highlighted by a striking environment of contrasting colors, landforms and textures.

  • Canyonlands National Park

Canyonlands National Park preserves a colorful landscape of sedimentary sandstones eroded into countless canyons, mesas and buttes by the Colorado River and its tributaries. the park sits in a vast basin bordered by sheer cliffs of Wingate Sandstone.

  • Dead Horse Point State Park

Located about 25 miles from Moab, Dead Horse Point is a popular destination for a day-trip. The central feature of the park is the spectacular vista that opens up as you stand on the edge of a 2,000 cliff overlooking Canyonlands National Park.

  • Manti-La Sal National Forest and Mountains

Along the eastern Utah border near Moab, the La Sal Mountains rise 12,721 feet above sea level. This part of the Forest provides climatic relief to the desert of the Colorado River Plateau. Narrow forest roads lead travelers to the high mountain passes, and into narrow canyons like Dark Canyon where the crystalline rock structure of the peaks is exposed for all to see or into Mill Creek where Oowah Lake sparkles as a small jewel amid spruce trees.

What to Do in Moab

Bordering town, the mighty Colorado skirts Arches National Park and cuts through the heart of Canyonlands National Park. Nearby, the historic and beautiful Green River carves its serpentine path through canyons deeper than the Grand Canyon. Although the Slickrock may be the nation’s most famous fat-tire route, there are dozens of other rock-and-mountain roads and trails. Rides range from a few hours to three or four days. Even novice riders can sign up for relatively level, easy terrain. The Moab Adventure Center has several guided trips and information. See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/biking

Comfortable and reliable Cessna aircraft provide window seating for each passenger. A detailed flight map and stereo headsets facilitate interpretation.  See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/flights

For those that have done it, they say it is like nothing else. The ride is smooth and tranquil in a balloon as you fly with the wind, rather than through it like fixed wing planes. With no fixed route or determined flight path, each balloon ride is a true adventure. Add to these sensations the thrill of an undulating desert floor rising and falling below you in dramatic sheer cliffs, spires, and gaping canyon country as far as the early morning light extends.  See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/hot-air-balloon-rides-moab-utah/

Visitors to Utah’s Red-Rock Wonderland Get More Bang for Buck – and Quality Time by Investing in Services of Moab Guides

MOAB, UT, Dec. 3, 2018 –The high-desert, red-rock playground that is Moab, Utah, is a vast wilderness with many a secret to reveal to the curious. But this territory can also prompt frustrations when it comes to such logistics as where to go, park and sleep. Even venturing onto the trails can be tricky for greenhorns. A landscape that may appear as familiar as a Hollywood set is anything but.

Moab Adventure Center (https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/) is the go-to resource when it comes to questions about how to get the most out of a visit here. And the resident experts present will often suggest securing the services of a seasoned guide as the best way to maximize time and opportunities spent enjoying the Moab region.

Here’s why.

Avoid parking hassles. The trailhead parking lots at Arches National Park and Canyonlands National Park and at many other forest service and state park trailheads are often full by 10 a.m. A guide offers and utilizes drop-off/pick-up shuttle services to avoid the disappointment of being turned away due to a full lot.

Pack in more adventure. A guided experience eliminates back-tracking by always moving forward. More complex hikes may have different start and end points that require vehicle shuttles. Moab Adventure Center staff can arrange transfers and guide assistance for such hikes. One example is a six-mile trek from the Moab Rim to Hidden Valley that overlooks the Colorado River and town of Moab. The path drops to a canyon where the magic of prehistory is revealed in rock carvings known as petroglyphs. Different start and end points are solved with assistance of a guide or pre-arranged shuttle.

Fly instead of drive. Visitors can save time and hassle by flying to Canyonlands Field Airport (CNY) in Moab from Salt Lake City or Denver (daily air service) where Moab Adventure Center will arrange transfers to in-town accommodations and to all activity sites. Guests don’t need a car as they can walk to shops, restaurants and to the Moab Adventure Center, all centrally located.

Secure sometimes-scarce lodging in Moab. Especially for peak spring and summer weekends, visitors should secure advance lodging reservations in Moab. Moab Adventure Center helps by holding blocks of rooms (Moab lodging options) for clients who book a trip with them a minimum of 30 days out.

Embellish adventuresA guide is a wellspring of information and loves to share interesting factoids and lore that embellish adventures, be it a hike among the red rocks or a full or half-day rafting trip on the Colorado River. A guide can also pick up on client interests and suggest other activities and what to do in Moab, Utah. The free Pocket Guide Moab: Last Minute Itineraries for the Undecided Traveler is also a good resource to the area.

Collect insider tipsWho has the best Happy Hour? Who has free Wi-Fi service in town? What’s the best way to view a red rock sunset? Again, guides dispense insights and suggestions at no extra cost. An Arches Sunset Tour, for example, includes a 50+ mile, four-hour guided, interpretive tour in a comfortable sightseeing vehicle that stops at five sites where easy hikes await.

Safety factors weigh in. A guide is aware of which trails may be closed and of pending weather extremes such as icy conditions or flash floods. A guide also brings along extra water, first aid supplies and a cell/sat phone. Moab Adventure Center guides are trained in how to administer advanced wilderness first aid.

Arrange meet-ups with new friends. Part of the fun of travel and adventure is sharing experiences with people who soon shift from strangers to friends. A professionally trained guide helps break the ice and set the tone for a mutually good time.

When the Crowds Thin Down and Temperatures Cool, Moab, Utah Offers Variety of Off-Season Hiking Options

MOAB, UT, Oct. 8, 2018 – As warm-weather crowds dissipate come autumn, the silence deepens in the high desert, red-rock playground of Moab, UT.

With October to December’s average highs of 70 to 50 degrees (F), hikers change their focus from the high country to embrace the warm canyons, mesas and creek beds of the colorful country surrounding Moab. This includes the trails and vistas of nearby Arches National Park.

Utah’s Moab Adventure Center (https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/), the go-to place to make arrangements for maximizing a visit here, suggests hikes ranging from half-mile roundtrip jaunts for beginners and those with limited time to longer adventures that probe into the depths of this geological wonderland.

“One of the hottest areas of growth for us is our low-key Arches Sunset Tour,” said Cort Wright, Manager of the Moab Adventure Center. Requests for this tour are up 182 percent from 2017 to 2018.

For $85 per person (includes snacks, water, park entrance fee, guide services and transportation) guests enjoy a 50+ mile, four-hour guided, interpretive tour in a comfortable sightseeing vehicle that stops at five sites where easy hikes await. This tour offers views of famous Balanced Rock, Courthouse Towers, La Sal Mountains, Petrified Dunes, and Panorama Point. Guests enjoy short guided walks to the North and South Window Arches, Turret Arch, as well as the legendary Delicate Arch Overlook. The views only get better as the setting sun paints the surrounding sandstone monoliths and La Sal Mountains spectacular shades of orange and red. See: https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/arches-national-park-tours-sunset

A tour for more dedicated hikers is conducted early mornings, year-round as guests explore this ancientplateau concealing more than 2,000 natural arches, representing the highest concentration of such wonders on the planet. This four-hour tour for $85 per person leads to easy hikes into many of the most popular (as well as a few more obscure) natural wonders. See: https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/arches-national-park-tours-morning

Other hikes to be enjoyed on-own or with a hired guide include Sand Dune Arch that Moab Adventure Center staff dub “a fun, funky hike,” weaving through red rock landscapes to reveal natural sand dunes actually under an arch. Another hike, Double Arch, leads to the curiosity of two arches stacked on top of each other.

Longer hikes might include a mile roundtrip to Upheaval Dome that exposes layers of rock that were twisted and thrust upward by what some geologists theorize was a meteorite impact nearly 60 million years ago. The four-mile-roundtrip Morning Glory Arch hike is into and through a canyon, wandering over slickrock with the company of a little stream and elusive riparian life.

More complex hikes may have different start and end points that require vehicle shuttles. Moab Adventure Center staff can arrange transfers and guide assistance for such hikes as a more extreme trek of around six miles from Moab Rim to Hidden Valley that looks over the Colorado River and the town of Moab. The path drops to a canyon called Hidden Valley where the magic of prehistory is revealed in rock carvings known as petroglyphs. There is a steep downhill on shale requiring good hiking boots.

Overnight Sensations - Moab Adventure Center Offers Options For Visitors Short on Vacation Time

MOAB, UT, July 2, 2018 – Short on vacation time this summer? Utah’s Moab Adventure Center suggests that a two-day break in a brand-new setting and doing something outside your comfort zone can feel like a week away.

“Moab is a great stopping point for that cross-country road trip or brief weekend getaway,” notes Moab Adventure Center Manager Cort Wright. “With so many half-, full-day and overnight adventures to choose from, no one is ever disappointed!”

Wright recommends these two water-themed, short-break options in the iconic red rock playground of Moab, encircled by two national parks and the Colorado River.

Option one is Colorado River/Moab 2-Day Adventure with one night of catered camping under the stars and rafting that begins where red rock cliffs cast towering reflections on the river.  The per person double rate of $295 includes all meals (including a barbeque lunch at a riverside lodge), camping equipment, transfers, and a choice of three different kinds of boats in which to experience the fun of rafting nearly 20 miles. Guests have the option of letting the guides stay in charge rowing an oar raft, or they can be part of the paddling crew on paddle rafts. Two-person inflatable kayaks are also provided so guests can take turns paddling on their own. For details see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/colorado-river-adventure

Option two, Cataract Canyon Rapid Express: Moab to Lake Powell, is a 2-day Colorado River/Moab raft and camp (one night) through 46-mile Cataract Canyon on the Colorado River as it cuts through the heart of Canyonlands National Park.  Just 30 minutes west of Moab, guests board customized, high-speed rafts that depart for a two-day, 100-mile Colorado River voyage. Experienced professional guides share folklore and facts about ancient Native American civilizations and early settlers while dropping into a series of nearly 30 whitewater rapids that make Cataract Canyon legendary. The journey ends on the scenic and still waters of Lake Powell before shuttling back to Moab. The per person double rate of $760 includes hiking, camping equipment, meals, rafting and transfers. For details see https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/cataract-canyon-express.

A third option is for visitors who have secured their own lodging in the area and are looking for iconic adventure. A Moab Signature Vacation Package (with deluxe upgrade option) offers two days of activities with on-own lodging that include on Day One, an Arches National Park Tour in the morning and in the afternoon a Slickrock Hummer Safari. On Day Two comes a morning Colorado River rafting adventure. The per person rate is $215. To speed things up so people can slow themselves down, Moab’s Canyonlands Field Airport (CNY) now has scheduled convenient daily air service from Denver, CO.

The Center recommends, due to its popularity over spring and summer weekends, to have lodging reservations in hand before coming to the region. Check out the website for Moab lodging options. As the Perfect Introduction to Canyon Country Moab Adventure Center Suggests Four-Day Land and River Sampler

MOAB, UT, May 29, 2018 – Among this summer’s most comprehensive, short-break vacations is a four-day frolic on land and water in the red rock playground that is Moab, Utah.

Moab Adventure Center (https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/) wanted to create the perfect short escape for the first-time visitor. An active introduction to the region that encompasses Arches and Canyonlands National Parks and the Colorado River that carves a system of canyons between them. The result is the Southwest Sampler which features adventures both on land and on water.

Labeled the “Best of the Southwest” guests are treated to three nights lodging (one night under canvass), an interpretive tour of Arches National Park, an iconic backcountry 4x4 adventure via custom Hummer and an overnight rafting journey down the Colorado River.

The per person, double, rate is $685 for ages 16 and up and $590 for ages 5-15 (minimum age 5). The price includes two nights at the Southwest-themed Gonzo Inn with private balcony, pool and hot tub, all close to downtown Moab; daily breakfasts; one night deluxe camping on the Colorado River under the stars in Castle Valley (named for castle-like rock formations); all meals on the overnight rafting/camping adventure; a four-hour guided hiking and sightseeing tour through Arches National Park followed by a bistro lunch, a sunset Hummer Safari, and a two-day raft trip on the Colorado with all camping and rafting gear and guided support needed.

“Families can be so over-scheduled today that carving out time together can be a challenge.  Our Southwest Sampler fits into what people are looking for: short breaks, a variety of outdoor adventure – but not too strenuous – and pampering,” said Cort Wright, Manager of the Moab Adventure Center.

2018 season sales have been brisk, making this package one of the hottest ticket items for this summer noted Wright. “As of late-May our Southwest Sampler sales were up 40 percent over last year.”

Guests must be prepared, he added, to drop their jaws over and over again on this adventure that introduces them to Arches National Park, a one-of-a-kind, all-natural stunner where over 2,000 natural sandstone arches and towering red rock formations blanket the landscape. Later, guests are strapped into a rugged 4x4 on the Hummer Safari as the off-road vehicle scales one of Moab’s famous red rocks fins on the way to an area known as Hell’s Revenge. A guide explains the geology of slickrock country with guests enjoying hors d’oeuvres and libations as the desert sun paints the evening sky.

The grand finale is a two-day Colorado River rafting adventure that begins on serene waters flanked by crimson cliffs. A barbeque precedes the privilege of falling asleep in a tent to the sounds of the river under a blanket of innumerable stars. The next morning the aroma of coffee and sizzling bacon clutch the anticipation mounting for the moderate whitewater ahead.

“The remoteness of the location, rugged terrain and services of a truly caring staff are a major part of the appeal of this trip,” added Wright.

Because the Colorado River is not controlled by an upstream dam, water levels vary throughout the season. Higher, faster water occurs in the spring (May, June) and begins to slow in July and August. Rapids are classified using the traditional Class I-V rating scale, which factors in not only water levels, but navigational difficulty. Typically, this beautiful river section has Class I-II whitewater.

Guests have the option of letting the guides stay in charge rowing an oar boat, or they can be part of the paddling crew on paddle boats. Inflatable kayaks (duckies) are also provided so guests can take turns paddling on their own.

Moab Adventure Center Transforms Website; Announces Huge Bump in Visitor Traffic, Bookings

MOAB, UT, March 20, 2018 – Moab Adventure Center, the region’s one-stop center for outdoor recreation, has made it easier than ever for people to have fun in a vacation mecca renowned for adventurous pursuits encircling Utah’s Arches and Canyonlands national parks.

Late last year (December 2017) the Moab Adventure Center (https://www.moabadventurecenter.com/) launched a new website that added 200+ new pages with eye-popping videos, graphics and images, carefully optimized for both home computer viewing and mobile-phone and tablet-integration.

By early March 2018, the company reports a huge bump in visitor traffic and engagement – up to 18 times more than in previous months – and a five-fold increase in reservation conversions directly attributed to the site’s new and clean look and design, plus its easy-to-navigate structure and intuitive placement of information.

Various sources used to view the website all experienced significant booking increases: 1.5 times more on desktop, 14 times more on tablet and 18 times more on mobile.

The new site incorporates eye-pleasing colors and fonts; logical, intuitive placement of links and interior pages; strategic use of quick-downloading videos; robust use of supporting information including local attractions, area drives, lodging, restaurants, vacation planning resources, travel suggestions, free vacation guides and more.

“Most of our guests use iPhones, iPads, laptops and Droids to research where to go and what to do when planning their vacation in Moab. Today a website needs to be user friendly on all of these devices – as well as on a desktop,” said Chad Allen of Resmark Interactive.

Resmark Interactive (https://www.resmarkinteractive.com/), a leading web design firm that focuses on “the customer experience” was commissioned for Moab Adventure Center’s website transformation.

A guiding premise of how Resmark Interactive satisfies its clients explains why the new Moab Adventure Center site is being so successful, said Allen. “The premise is that a customer’s experience often begins with the initial website visit. That first experience must evoke emotion. It must give understanding as to why you do what you do. The path to action must be clear, fast and easy. We help achieve this in a way that gets results.”

Clients who have recently engaged Resmark Interactive for their website projects include Big Creek Expeditions, Western River Expeditions, Mad River Rafting, Raftmasters, Hawaii Adventure Center, Channel Island Outfitters Maison de Skiand Great Alaska Adventures.

“Fresh off a record breaking 2017 season, Moab Adventure Center is braced for another wildly successful year in 2018, supercharged by our new-look website,” predicts Jamie Pearce, Manager of the Moab Adventure Center

Moab Adventure Center Predicts Record Numbers This Fall On River Rafting, Mountain Biking and Four-Wheel Adventuring

MOAB, UT, Sept. 6, 2017 –Moab’s leading purveyor of outdoor adventure is coming off its best summer ever in terms of bookings and looks for this trend to continue over the upcoming fall color season.

The Moab Adventure Center reports a 35% increase in mountain biking trips sold this year in step with a nearly 50% increase in half-day Hummer Safaris and a 15% uptick in overnight river rafting adventures on the Colorado River.

“And this was over the summer months when tourism to Moab runs high along with the daytime thermometer,” reports Brandon Lake, company CMO.  “We can’t wait for the fall, the turning colors and more moderate temperatures as we expect this trend will continue.”

Colorado River rafting, redrock mountain bike escapes and four-wheel safaris continue through the end October when the quiet season finally descends.

However, any quiet here is short-lived, reports Moab Adventure Center.

“Moab is the adventure world that never sleeps,” says Jamie Pearce, Manager of the Moab Adventure Center, the region’s one-stop-shop for activities, gear and advice for exploring the slick rock surroundings bounded by Arches and Canyonlands National Parks.

One of the most exciting times of year here is Autumn when the yellow cottonwoods along the Colorado River and the golden aspens of the La Sal Mountains play with the reds and oranges of this multi-colored terrain. A perfect fall getaway is enhanced with cooler days and increased elbow room in the national parks.

Through late October visitors can enjoy scenic rafting on Colorado River’s warmer water and playful but not difficult rapids. Available are half-day (morning or afternoon from $62 per person), full-day (from $94 per person including barbeque lunch) and overnight (from $273 per person) guided and outfitted excursions. For details please see http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/rafting/.

With temperatures in the mid-70s to mid-80s, visitors turn to mountain biking packages for varied ability levels that lead into backcountry vistas and terrain. The per person rate is from $99. For details please see http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/biking/.

Hummer® 4x4 Adventures (thru October), from $80 per person, yield spectacular off-road views of the towering La Sal Mountains on the Utah-Colorado border. For details please see http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/hummer/.

The Moab Area Travel Council reports that a heightened demand for accommodations comes with cooler weather in September and October and in the first two weeks of November. Also popular are Presidents Day Weekend in February and some March, April and May weekends. The region’s 3,438 bed count is expected to grow in 2018 by 500 additional hotel rooms and over 60 overnight vacation rentals. A goal is to grow the transient room tax by expanding the bed base to support an increasing year-round demand. In addition, each visitor spends on average $130 a day ($52 on meals and $78 on transportation and other, excluding lodging/accommodations/tours).

To speed things up so people can slow themselves down, the region now has scheduled daily air service from Denver, CO, and Salt Lake City, UT.

Moab Adventure Center Helps People Gain Toe Holds on Rocks – and in Life With Rock Climbing and Canyoneering Vacations

MOAB, UT, Aug. 14, 2017– Knowing how to source and grab a toe hold is a strategy for success in rock climbing – and in life.

Moab Adventure Center sets people up for success in the climbing world with two active vacation plans available from April and into October that are focused on canyoneering and on beginner and intermediate-level rock climbing. Professional instructors introduce or review the fundamentals of climbing based on client experience, then adapt the climbing or canyoneering experience accordingly.

People from around the world come to experience rock climbing and canyoneering in Moab, UT, a region gifted with two national parks, Canyonlands and Arches, where rocks and natural stone monuments combine to create unparalleled learning adventures.

With these sport vacation programs, the Moab Adventure Center (http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/) is responding to a national demand for outdoor climbing programs promulgated by such TV shows as NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” and by the growth of commercial indoor climbing centers (as of August 2016 there are 951 indoor climbing gyms in the US and Canada). According to Climbing Business Journal (June). In 2016,4.6 million people participated in sport climbing, bouldering or indoor climbing. These pursuits are now more popular than gymnastics and track and field, and they are giving CrossFit a run for its money. The International Olympic Committee has announced that it will fold climbing into the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

In support of this fast-growing trend, the Moab Adventure Center offers these two beginner to intermediate half-day climbing opportunities:

Moab Canyoneering - Ephedra's Grotto is a five-hour immersion that begins with a 2.5-mile downhill hike through ancient petrified sand dunes leading to a dry sand and rock wash. Quickly the wash disappears over an edge, plunging into the depths of a hidden chasm. "We go down there?" is the usual question after peering over the edge. “Yes.” A 90-foot rappel is the first obstacle in reaching the entrance to the Grotto. Now, almost totally enclosed in a small stone room, adventurers exit to find their next challenge, a 120-foot rappel into a green canyon below via a natural stone bridge! Detailed rappelling instruction and a back-up safety system allow even the first-time canyoneer the opportunity to experience this adrenalin-charged activity. Insights into geology, plant life and natural history provide depth to this adventure that concludes at a spring-fed stream. See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/rock-climbing/canyoneering.php.

Moab Rock Climbing is a half-day (four hour) adventure that introduces the mental and physical power of rock climbing to beginners or provides a refresher course to more experienced rock climbers. The program covers the essentials: equipment use and care, knots and rope work, basic belaying and descending, all while improving face and crack climbing techniques. The course utilizes climbing areas that allow climbers to transition from a climbing gym to real rock.  Guests can choose to learn specific skills or be challenged with a vertical workout. A variety of routes and a relaxed atmosphere encourages progress at an individual pace. Children as young as five may participate. See: http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/rock-climbing/basic-climbing.php.

Participants in these programs are asked to meetat the Moab Adventure Center 15 minutes prior to departure. Gear and safety equipment and snacks and drinks are provided. The fee for adults 16 and up is $104 and for youth 10-16 $89.

A World of Awe and Adventure Surround the Colorado River in Moab, Utah

A World of Awe and Adventure Surround the Colorado River in Moab, Utah

MOAB, UT, June 22, 2017 -- The vacation mecca of Moab owes much of its allure to the Colorado River that cuts across its northern boundary. Nestled between the red rock wonders of Canyonlands and Arches National Parks and fed by the breathtaking peaks of the La Sal Mountains (Utah’s second highest range), the waters of the Colorado River offer a welcome relief to the rugged and arid desert surrounding Moab.

Says long-time resident Jamie Pearce: “The #1 attraction and must do here in Moab is the Colorado River. It would be a tragedy, I'm not joking, a real tragedy if you came to Moab and didn't experience the stunning beauty of the Colorado River canyons.” Pearce, who manages the Moab Adventure Center, also co-authored Pocket Guide Moab: Last Minute Itineraries for the Undecided Traveler

Here in what’s been dubbed, “The Adventure Capital of the World,” the Colorado River’s corridors create one of the most stunning whitewater rafting destinations in the United States. From May through October, this liquid attraction offers rapids and ripples for all ages, whether on adrenaline-pumping whitewater, or a leisurely jet boat tour across calm waters or something in between – like on a paddleboard, she explains. All the action begins and ends in Moab.

The Moab Adventure Center helps visitors choose the right adventure option for them. For example:

Good for Young Families and Beginners is Moab River Rafting - Colorado River Full Day that combines easiest-to-maneuver Class I and II rapids over 14 river miles for adventurers age 5 and up.  Guests can choose a paddle raft (everyone in the boat gets to dip a paddle) and two-person inflatable kayaks (weather, temperatures and water levels permitting). After running the river all morning, a stop at Red Cliffs Ranch comes with a BBQ lunch, followed by more rafting and swimming. The season for this program extends from mid-March to late October. A full-day rate is $94 adults, $73 youth. Half-day morning and afternoon programs are also available. For details please see http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/rafting/full.php

Good for Adventurous Youth 10 and Up and Active Adults is Stand-Up Paddle Boarding Adventure that comes with a personal flotation device, adjustable paddle, a 10- or 12-foot Surftech paddle board, instruction as needed, roundtrip transportation to the river, snacks and beverages.  Pearce says peoplegenerally get the hang of stand-up paddle boarding within just a few minutes over a flatwater, slow-moving section of the river. Once everyone is comfortable, guests push off, paddling past towering sandstone cliffs, catching the occasional glimpse of a great blue heron, a bighorn sheep, or a climber scaling the rock walls along the river’s edge. For those who prefer just to float along, rubber duckies (inflatable kayaks) are provided. These are half-day adventures at $81 for 16 and up and $51 ages 20-13. For details please see http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/moab-stand-up-paddle-board-tours/

Good for Active Beginners, Intermediate to Advanced Rafters is Westwater Canyon Full Day that National Geographic called"The West's Best Short Whitewater Trip." This spirited oar-powered and paddleboat trip comes with Class III and IV rated whitewater and scenery and experiences unique to Westwater Canyon: stunningly beautiful and unique black, gold and red canyon walls, Indian petroglyphs that punctuate the river’s course, and hikes to historic cabins and mysterious caves.  This day-long adventure comes with lunch, snacks and beverages. The rate for ages 12 and up is $185. For details please see http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/trips/rafting/westwater.php

Good for Everyone of All Ages are Colorado River Jetboat Tours that explore spectacular river scenery bordering Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. The newest and best-equipped boats are used to power along the Colorado River where remote canyons of exquisite beauty shine. Fun, thrills and laughter are guaranteed.  An evening river trip that coincides with sunset includes a cowboy-style Dutch oven dinner followed by a tour of the canyons reflecting the colors of the setting sun. Roadwork in Arches National Park Creates Challenges for Visitors - Moab Adventure Center Adds Programs, Suggests Alternatives

Extensive Road Construction Projects Close Park Roads from 7 am to 7 pm Sunday through Thursday through November

MOAB, UT, April 26, 2017– The biggest attraction in Moab, Utah is Arches National Park. Last year this international icon drew a record-breaking 1,585,718 visitors who explored the park both day and night. In 2017 the region anticipates even more visitors. However, because of road crews working here at night, explorations of Arches will be limited to 12 daylight-only hours (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.) Sunday through Thursday.

One company already has plans in place to assure that visitors won’t be disappointed because of the limited park access that continues through Nov. 30, 2017.

“Word has gotten out that Moab is super cool,” says Jamie Pearce, manager of Moab Adventure Center (http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/). “We’re ready for the crowds. However, especially with the challenges tourists will face this year, we are here to help educate visitors to the fact that there is so much more to do in Moab than Arches. Also open for exploration nearby are Canyonlands National Park, Deadhorse Point State Park, and Manti-La Sal National Forest, just to name a few.”

To help adjust for evening park closures, Moab Adventure Center has added a daily morning option, Arches National Park Adventure Tour that meets at the Center at 7 a.m. daily and returns at 12:15 p.m. From a special touring vehicle guests view famous landmarks and vistas while also enjoying short guided hikes to a collection of spectacular arches.

For travelers whose hearts are set on sunset, on Friday and Saturday evenings only Arches National Park Sunset Discovery via sightseeing van is available. Views of famous Balanced Rock, Courthouse Towers, La Sal Mountains, Petrified Dunes, and Panorama Point highlight the trip. Short guided walks to the North and South Window Arches, Turret Arch, and the legendary Delicate Arch Overlook only get better as the setting sun paints the surrounding sandstone monoliths and mountains brilliant hues of red and orange.

The local experts at the Moab Adventure Center also suggest a Sunset Hummer Safari that winds guests through sandstone hills, washes and draws outside of town before serving refreshments at a spectacular vista.

“If visitors are not interested in being driven, we’ll help them understand the park layout and assesses how much/little activity and time they want to spend in Arches. Once we have that understanding and present them with all the options, we can help them build the perfect Moab itinerary for their budget and desires,” Pearce adds.

Other ways to experience the park in daylight hours includes a 30-minute flightseeing option, Arches and Towers 30 min Tour, over classic formations such as Courthouse Towers, North and South Window Arches, Delicate Arch, Devil's Garden, the Colorado River, Fisher Towers, and Castle Valley.

Hopping on mountain bikes is also an option. For example, Courthouse Loop: Easy is a great introductory ride that’s perfect for novices or families with younger children that overlooks the Windows section of Arches National Park.

Another option for exploring Arches might be signing up for a Private Photography / Scenery Tour. Guides assure that guests will be able to position cameras for the most photogenic views.

“When ultimate flexibility, privacy and overall control matter, a private, custom trip is the best answer,” adds Pearce.

“Of course,” she points out, “the signature trip from Moab Adventure Center is a rafting adventure down the Colorado River which borders Arches National Park to the southeast as it cuts through Castle Valley.” Offered are half and full day trips as well as a popular overnighter with a full-service camp set up on a sandy beach.

Moab Adventure Center Sees Growth In Private and Customized Outings For Couples, Families and Groups

MOAB, UT, March 22, 2017 – The region’s largest vacation and activity provider, Moab Adventure Center, is embracing the latest trend in group travel – the private, custom- designed tour. They report that more and more clients are now selecting experiences singular to just their group of friends, family and co-workers.

“Over the past several seasons we’ve seen a substantial increase in honeymooners, small groups of friends and couples, VIP's and families requesting private, custom-built itineraries,” according to Jamie Pearce, manager of Moab Adventure Center (http://www.moabadventurecenter.com/). “We've planned trips to epic vistas and trails our guides have discovered where we've jeeped to the top, rappelled down, and biked back to the trailhead. We've 4x4'd in musicians for entertainment and prepped gourmet dinners surrounded by amazing scenery. We've orchestrated off-road experiences for the media and filming events.”

The driving force, speculates Pearce, is that privacy is now the most valued commodity among travelers. Quality of experience is more important than cost, although custom trips can offer greater value than packaged tours based on number of participants. If a group size warrants, it will be treated as a private group without paying increased fees for a private tour. The Moab Adventure Center offers group discounts of up to 20 percent off.

“When ultimate flexibility, privacy and overall control matter, a private, custom trip is the growing answer,” adds Pearce.

Moab Adventure Center offers an expanding menu of private tours for exploring this red rock playground situated between two national parks; Arches and Canyonlands. Clients can build a romantic river escape for just two or an active multi-generational family outing with age-appropriate activities and challenges such as national park tours, mountain biking, Hummer safaris and canyoneering. The Moab Adventure Center can design a custom program for just a day or plan a weeklong multi-day itinerary based on specific requests. The benefits of a custom trip may be, among others, to compliment travel schedules, to provide more intimate personal experiences, to bring unusual dining adventures to the tour and to let clients determine how and where they want to spend their time.

Privacy and exclusivity are usually top of mind when groups of any size plan an outing. The center has recently seen an uptick in adventurescreated specifically for bachelor and bachelorette groups as well as groups of women looking for something different. Pearce assures that, “no request is too outrageous for us to consider, as long as it meets our safety guidelines.”

Another benefit of setting up a private trip is that participants can travel with that group and just those individuals involved. It is appealing for those that want to travel with people of similar beliefs such as a recent Christian Cataract Canyon raft trip set up by the Moab Adventure Center for an area church group.

It is always best to start planning months in advance for the best availability and options. Corporate and special-interest groups are advised to plan minimally eight months to a year out in order to secure appropriate accommodations. A popular potpourri for corporate groups combines whitewater rafting with a Hummer Safari excursion and an afternoon in the national park with ample time for bonding and meetings. Some groups may want to go extreme adventure, while others seek an easy experience. Typical group itineraries of two to three nights start with a welcome dinner at a resort, breakfast, corporate meeting, activity, corporate dinner, guest speaker the following day, another activity, possible another meeting, then end with a farewell dinner and high-energy party.

A few of the most popular private tours include the following activities:

  • Private Hummer Tour– For up to 8 guests @ $350 per hour for vehicle and driver/guides. A gourmet dinner or sunrise breakfast is an extra $50 per person.
  • Private Photography / Scenery Tour– A guide/driver takes guests to insider favorites, with pick up at hotel or campground. Rates are available on request.
  • Private Stand Up Paddle Boarding Adventure– For up to 6 guests @$600 per departure for private guide and once-in-a-lifetime experience on the Colorado River. Included are transportation, paddleboard rental, instruction, guide, snacks and beverages.
  • Private Sunset Raft Trip– A two-person minimum at $300 per person for rafting adventure on the Colorado River with private river guide who explains points of interest along the way. The day can end with an optional dinner at a riverside ranch (for an additional fee).
  • Private Tours of Moab and Beyond– Rates are available upon request. This is a four to six-hour outing that can be arranged over several days for an intimate view of the parks and surrounding areas of interest: dinosaur habitats, ancient Puebloan ruins, sites of famous movie locations and more.

To speed things up so people can slow themselves down, the region now has scheduled daily air service from Denver, CO, and Salt Lake City, UT.
