She underwent technical improvements for polar cruising in 2010, and since then as Sea Spirit she has been providing luxury expedition cruises in both the Arctic and Antarctic environments. Sea Spirit offers all-suite accommodations with square footages ranging from 215 to 463. There are two multi-purpose lounges for educational programming and entertainment, a restaurant that can accommodate all passengers in one seating, a well-stocked library, and ample outdoor deck space to enjoy the polar landscapes and wildlife. Activities directed by a team of experienced polar guides and educators include Zodiac excursions, hiking and optional kayaking and camping, along with informative presentations aboard. The ship’s expedition staff-to-passenger ratio of 1:9 is one of the best in the business.

I/B 50 Years of Victory, the largest and most modern nuclear-powered icebreaker in the world, transports guests to the North Pole in unique style. Fourteen-day, top-of-the-world programs are scheduled for the 2016, 2017 and 2018 summer seasons. The 525-foot 50 Years of Victory, a working vessel, carries 128 passengers in comfortable accommodations, all with exterior views and private facilities. Public spaces include a dining room; aft salon for lectures, presentations and socializing; a bow-facing bar and lounge; library and lounge; plus a gym, two saunas and swimming pool with heated seawater. The ship has a clinic and physician.

Being aboard the largest nuclear-powered icebreaker in the world, capable of forcefully driving through Arctic ice nearly ten feet thick, sets these North Pole voyages apart from any other polar expedition ship adventure.

Environmental Promise

As a member in good standing of both the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) and the International Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO), Poseidon Expeditions pledges its commitment to the further development of Arctic and Antarctic conservation and support of related scientific research.

They actively encourage participation in their expeditions by naturalists and scientists engaged in such research, offering a platform from which they can pursue their important work as well as a forum where they can voice their unique understanding of these fragile and remote ecosystems. Preservation of the Arctic and Antarctic habitats and the polar ice cap are environmental imperatives and the responsibility of all, including tourism operators and their guests. Poseidon Expeditions is honored to be a part of this, and to help passengers understand the importance of preserving Polar Regions for future generations.

International Family of Polar Explorers

What sets Poseidon Expeditions apart from many other cruise operations is its ability to attract an international mixture of cruise participants. Guests come from China,Russia, Europe, North America, Australia and elsewhere. While English is the primary language spoken by expedition leaders and staff, Poseidon offers a QuietVox in-ear translation system for non-English-speaking passengers (e.g. German, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, French, and Swedish). Since the Polar Regions truly hold international status belonging to the world community, it is only fitting that travelers should arrive there with fellow expeditioners from all corners of the globe.

Poseidon Expeditions Prepares to Commence 2021-22 Antarctic Season with Sea Spirit

PROVIDENCE, RI, Oct. 27, 2021 -- Poseidon Expeditions will restart its expedition cruises to Antarctica and the Southern Ocean aboard the 114-passenger Sea Spirit with a Dec. 20-30, 2021, Christmas Holiday Cruise. Seven voyages in total are planned for the upcoming season following the industry-wide, COVID-related shutdown of the entire 2020-21 Antarctic season and the suspension of the first four Sea Spirit trips that had been scheduled to operate earlier this coming season.

Nikolay Saveliev, president of Poseidon Expeditions, said, “I join our crew, expedition staff and office personnel in expressing both enthusiasm and joy at once again getting started with what we do best – exploring the earth’s polar realm with small groups of adventurous and curious travelers. We want to sincerely thank our customers and travel partners for their patience in waiting out this pandemic with us.”

“The loyalty and determination of our guests to travel with us to Antarctica is gratifying, with nearly a 90% retention rate of those Poseidon passengers who were booked for the non-existent 2020-21 season. Travelers are clearly resolute about visiting this unique, remote destination. It took a concerted effort on the part of our ship management team – along with other outside organizations and authorities tasked with getting Argentina’s borders open for tourism – to establish safety standards for our travelers joining the Sea Spirit,” he said.

Poseidon’s COVID-19 Safety Protocols for Antarctica, which can be found on the website here, factor in recently released requirements from Argentina. These include presenting proof of a valid COVID vaccination, plus providing negative results of a PCR test administered within 72 hours of entering Argentina. With Argentina opening its borders for tourism on Nov. 1, Sea Spirit passengers will be able to book commercial flights into Ushuaia (Poseidon’s turnaround port for Antarctica cruises) as they would during a normal season.

Guests enjoy a pre-cruise night at Arakur Ushuaia Resort & Spa before transferring to the ship. An additional antigen test will be administered at the Arakur by Poseidon prior to the transfer to help ensure a safe and secure environment onboard. Testing regimens aboard the Sea Spirit will also be offered to fulfil Argentina disembarkation requirements as well as for those passengers whose home countries have such re-entry requirements.

Poseidon Expeditions Begins North Pole Cruise Operations This July

PROVIDENCE, RI, July 1, 2021 --Poseidon Expeditions announces the resumption of its signature North Pole icebreaker cruises aboard the nuclear-powered 50 Years of Victory with two departures in July 2021. Due to ongoing COVID-related travel restrictions, the July 10-22 and July 21-Aug. 2 cruises will be occupied almost exclusively with Russian nationals.

“While our Sea Spirit and the ships of most Arctic expedition ship operators have been forced by the coronavirus epidemic to sit out the 2020 and 2021 summer seasons, we are gratified to operate two of the originally scheduled departures for 50 Years of Victory this summer,” said Nikolay Saveliev, President of Poseidon Expeditions (https://poseidonexpeditions.com/).

“This was not without its challenges, as we had to work closely with Russian authorities and Atomflot (owner and operator of Russia’s icebreaker fleet) to secure all of the usual permits as well as agreed protocols to prevent and control any potential occurrence of COVID-19 onboard the 128-passenger ship,” he added. Guests must present proof of a valid COVID vaccination certificate or a successful antibody test (SARS-CoV-2 IgG/IgM) plus negative results of a PCR test administered in the days prior to boarding. Mask wearing and other safety protocols such as regular temperature checks of guests will also be implemented as conditions warrant at the time of departure.

The unique 13-day Top of the World cruise includes a full day of activities at the North Pole, 90º north latitude, plus several days of exploration of Franz Josef Land, an infrequently visited archipelago of 192 islands rich in polar wildlife and scenery. Creating a memorable experience will be the task of Poseidon’s 14-member expedition staff, which includes marine biologists, geologists, historians, glaciologists and other polar experts.

Three scheduled programs for 2020 were postponed, with guests transferred to 2021 or 2022. The affected season did not diminish demand for this unique trip. Poseidon has hosted more than 4,600 polar adventurers to the top of the world since it began this itinerary in 2001.

Poseidon is also opening reservations to all international travelers with the commencement of 50 Years of Victory’s 2022 season, with three planned departures: July 10-22, July 21-Aug.1 and Aug.1-13. Rates start at $30,395 per person with the early booking discount (valid through Oct. 31, 2021). The rates include a pre-cruise hotel night in Murmansk, all transfers, excursions, helicopter rides, educational lectures and entertainment, parka and more.

The company recently updated its Coronavirus Travel Policy, and will continue to do so as the situation warrants.

Poseidon Expeditions Announces New 2022 Arctic and 2022-23 Antarctic Cruises

PROVIDENCE, RI, Oct. 21, 2020– Announcing the new 2022 Arctic and 2022-23 Antarctic polar cruise seasons three months earlier than usual and announcing a return to West Greenland for the first time in four years top the list for Poseidon Expeditions’ future plans for the 114-passenger expedition ship Sea Spirit.

“A look of our recent booking patterns demonstrates the pent-up demand of travelers to get back into the polar regions,” said Nikolay Saveliev, president of Poseidon. “Our travel partners and customers are comfortable looking ahead, well beyond the COVID-related interruption that’s been a blow to the cruise industry and to the travelers that support it. And this is why we are opening reservations for a new season much earlier than we have in the past. People are ready to solidify their plans for 2022 and beyond.”

New for the 2022 Arctic season will be a return to West Greenland, last visited by the Sea Spirit in early summer 2018. “It’s a popular region for expedition cruising, combining Viking history, Inuit culture and community life, fjordland scenery and massive icebergs. We’re happy to be going back,” said Saveliev. The 2022 West Greenland expedition voyages include a May 27 12-day Land of the Vikings, from Reykjavik, Iceland to Kangerlussuaq, Greenland and a June 7 eight-day Icebergs, Whales & Inuit Culture, round trip from Kangerlussuaq.

In midsummer, the Sea Spirit will head farther northeast for a full schedule of departures that explore Svalbard and the company’s signature explorations of the Franz Josef Land Archipelago before returning to East Greenland in September for a pair of 11-day Arctic Sights and Northern Lights cruises that focus on the Aurora Borealis.

“For the eighth season in a row, the Sea Spirit will visit Franz Josef Land with three expeditions at the height of the Arctic summer, directly from Svalbard. Poseidon remains the only polar cruise operator able to do this, which eliminates several days at sea and provides for eight full days exploring this archipelago of 191 unique islands in the Russian High Arctic. It’s a region rich in wildlife, unique geology and glaciers, and legendary tales from the heroic era of polar exploration – there’s no place in the Arctic quite like it,” said Saveliev.

Like the migrating seabirds that are often the focus of Poseidon’s onboard educational programs, the Sea Spirit follows the sun south in October to begin its 2022-23 Antarctic season. This includes four Antarctic Peninsula voyages of 11-12 days; three longer programs that include the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands, from 21-23 days; and the popular 15-day Crossing 66º South Latitude expedition cruise.

All reservations made for any 2022 Arctic and 2022-23 Antarctic cruise by June 30, 2021, will benefit from 10%-15% early booking savings, depending on category chosen. An additional early-early booking feature – for reservations made by this Dec. 31, 2020 – will be a $250 per person onboard credit.

All of the new 2022 Arctic and 2022-23 Antarctic expedition cruises, including prices and departure dates, can be found on the company’s website at www.poseidonexpeditions.com.

Poseidon Expeditions Thwarts Travel Bug Fever with Polar Ice – Via Video

PROVIDENCE, RI, April 30, 2020– Right now snuggling up in an armchair with travel videos is the best antidote to what the Germans call Fernweh or yearning for places far away. As the world is still in travel lockdown mode, most of us long for the day we can freely explore the world once again.

Today most of us can’t travel much farther than our corner grocery store. But there is relief to this cabin fever. Poseidon Expeditions offers up an online travel menu of virtual expedition cruises in the mystical worlds of ice -- Antarctica in winter, and in summer, the wild Arctic and even the geographic North Pole. Experiences include, among others, kayaking among the icebergs, safe encounters with whales and polar bears and a helicopter flight over the Top of the World.

“If you have the travel bug fever, we recommend treating symptoms with polar ice – via our extraordinary videos,” said Steve Wellmeier of Poseidon Expeditions.

Poseidon has also introduced a “Relaxed” reservation policy for new bookings for the 2021 Arctic and 2021-22 Antarctic seasons aboard the 114-passenger Sea Spirit. For these new bookings in 2021-22 the deposit is reduced from 20% to 10%, and travelers have two months before the deposit is due. Poseidon Expeditions Renews Charter Contract for Sea Spirit

PROVIDENCE, RI, April 9, 2020 – Poseidon Expeditions announced today that it has signed an agreement with ship owner SunStone Ships, Inc. to extend the charter of the 114-passenger expedition ship Sea Spirit for two years. This will keep the ship flying the Poseidon Expeditions banner until May 2024.

Nikolay Saveliev, founder and president of Poseidon Expeditions (https://poseidonexpeditions.com/), a specialist in active adventure cruises in Arctic and Antarctic regions, said that the Sea Spirit has received great acceptance in the marketplace and that the company is delighted to be able to continue offering the ship to its travel partners and polar travelers around the globe.

“With the Sea Spirit, we have a smaller-capacity, premium vessel that’s perceived as very desirable compared with most of the newly announced polar-class ships in the range of 200-500 passengers. Those wanting to go to Antarctica or to the Arctic understand the advantages that a smaller vessel can provide – better access to remote areas and landing sites; more ‘face time’ with the expedition team; and a camaraderie among guests and staff that is more difficult to achieve aboard larger ships,” he added.

Saveliev continued: “This ship has delivered a consistently high level of service and performance in the polar regions from the ship’s officers, catering and hospitality team. Sunstone has done a great job keeping the passenger areas renovated and the technical features consistently updated, such as the new, state-of-the art Rolls Royce Zero Speed Stabilizers installed in 2019. Combined with our exceptional expedition staff, which curates experiences for our guests that are engaging, educational and fun, it’s no wonder the Sea Spirit achieves a 4.9 ranking out of a possible 5.0 from TrustPilot,  the well-established third-party review site.”

The founder of Poseidon added that plans were still moving forward with a new build, configured for fewer than 150 passengers, but that an official announcement with details was still forthcoming.

Like a migrating bird, the Sea Spirit spends her year between the two polar regions, in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean from late October through mid-March and then in the sub-Arctic and Arctic regions of the British Isles, Svalbard, Franz Josef Land and Greenland from mid-May through September.

“We certainly understand the COVID-19 related concerns and questions from our travel partners and the travelers booked on our upcoming cruises. There’s no question about it: things are changing daily. We are looking at each cruise on the calendar’s horizon, and will factor into our decision-making all issues pertaining to Coronavirus-related bans, travel advisories, flight availability and any other matters that potentially might affect the health and safety of our guests, staff and crew,” said Steve Wellmeier, managing director of the company’s US office.

Following the successful completion of the company’s 2019-20 Antarctic season this past week, the Sea Spirit is currently heading north from Montevideo, Uruguay, where it disembarked passengers March 19.

“At the present time, Poseidon remains committed to its schedule of cruises in the Arctic this season. But we are giving our booked passengers and travel partners the benefit of the doubt in rescheduling their summer cruises. Those passengers with existing reservations for the upcoming season may re-book or transfer their booking to a 2021 Arctic departure, beginning from 60 days and up to seven days prior to the 2020 scheduled departure date. Final payment for 2020 Arctic voyages is pushed back from 90 days to 60 days prior to departure, and deposits on new bookings for 2020 Arctic programs are reduced from 20% to 10% of the cruise fare,” said Wellmeier.

For the next 2020-21 Antarctic season, final payment is due 60 days prior to departure rather than the customary 90 days, and deposits on new Antarctica business are also reduced from 20% to 10% of the cruise fare.

While the Russian Federation recently announced that its borders are closed to all foreign travelers until May 1, the company’s three voyages to the North Poleaboard the nuclear-powered icebreaker 50 Years of Victory remain scheduled for operation, beginning with the July 12-24, program from Murmansk, Russia. Final payment conditions are changed from 90 days to 60 days prior to the departure date.

The company recently updated its Coronavirus Travel Policy, and will continue to do so as the situation warrants.

Poseidon Expeditions Partners with Oceanites, which Documents the Changing Environmental Impact on Penguins

PROVIDENCE, RI, Feb. 11, 2020 – Poseidon Expeditions, the specialist in active adventure cruises in the polar latitudes, recently entered into a supportive relationship with the nonprofit organization Oceanites to help monitor and analyze penguin and seabird population changes over time in the Antarctic Peninsula.

This is the first season in Antarctica (2019-2020) that Oceanites and Poseidon are working together. Through an in-kind donation of space on several Poseidon voyages each year, Oceanites (https://oceanites.org/) is able to bring researchers to Antarctica to carry out its work in counting and documenting nesting birds at established sites.

During the cruise Poseidon Expeditions helps to both orchestrate an auction to raise money for Oceanites and provide information on Oceanites’ work to generate additional donations from passengers. In turn, while on a cruise with Poseidon, Oceanites researchers present an evening slide show about their work and the changes they are witnessing in penguin populations and the environment.

“For 25 years Oceanites has been an important partner of the Antarctic scientific community, working on the front line to provide vital statistics on penguin populations at the Antarctic Peninsula,” said Steve Wellmeier of Poseidon Expeditions. “Our passengers really appreciate the opportunity to learn firsthand about penguins and changes affecting various colonies. They return home with a much better understanding of the White Continent and the need to preserve its unique ecosystem.”

Oceanites’ Mapping Application for Penguin Populations and Projected Dynamics (MAPPPD) database launched in October 2016. This database makes publicly available continent-wide Antarctic penguin population data and descriptive information.  MAPPPD now comprises data from over 660 sites across the entire Antarctic continent.

“Oceanites’ longstanding credibility promotes a better understanding of the singular issue of our time — adaptation — because Antarctica and its penguins are incubators foretelling our planet’s future,” said Oceanites founder and principal, Ron Naveen. A former Antarctic expedition leader, Naveen began his love affair with birds when he was 14 years old. He became enraptured with penguins and their unique challenge being on the front lines of climate change.

Oceanites uses penguin population trends to focus public attention on climate change ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ and whether penguins – and humans can adapt to a warming future.

“This is the world’s only publicly supported, scientific research initiative in Antarctica,” explains Naveen. The US-based, tax-exempt nonprofit §501(c)(3) organization has been driving science-based conservation under the Antarctic Treaty for more than two decades (since 1994).

Over the years, Oceanites has supported successful efforts to establish both general guidance for all Antarctic visitors and a series of site-specific management guidelines.

“Climate change is real and the most important challenge facing mankind today. We just want more people to get outside and smell the guano and then to become a part of the conversation and solution,” said Naveen.

Following are observations Oceanites has tracked over 1, 713 site visits at 223 data collection stations over 22 seasons in Antarctica:

·         Over the past 60 years winter temperatures in Antarctica, the coldest and windiest place on Earth, have risen by 9* F (5*C);

·         Gentoo Penguin populations seem to be increasing and increasing their range southward;

·         Adélie and Chinstrap Penguin populations seem to be on the decline.

Naveen explains why Antarctica is so important in the understanding of climate change:

·         Antarctica is ‘ground zero’ for understanding how a changing climate affects Earth’s living organisms. What happens to Antarctica’s penguins, wildlife, land, ice, and ocean affects us all. Oceanites has inaugurated a major, long-term Climate Challenge research project that will help distinguish the direct and interactive effects of climate change, fishing, tourism, and national operations in the Antarctic Peninsula, which, in turn, is expected to assist improved environmental management in this vastly warming region;

·         Its 5.4 million square miles are the size of the United States and Mexico combined, and equal 10 percent of earth’s land surface;

·         During the austral winter, sea ice may double the size of the continent;

·         99 percent of Antarctica is covered by a permanent ice sheet, which averages over a mile in thickness, and in some places is almost three miles thick;

·         80 percent of the world’s ice and 70 percent of the world’s fresh water are locked in this ice pack;

·         Antarctica’s surrounding Southern Ocean ecosystem is the largest and most fertile in the world, comprising 13.9 million square miles, equal to 10 percent of the world’s oceans.

Poseidon Expeditions Announces Summer 2021 Dates and Rates for Cruising to North Pole

PROVIDENCE, RI, Jan. 30, 2020 – Rates will not be increased to journey to the Top of the World with Poseidon Expeditions in the summer of 2021. Instead, rates will mirror those in 2020 for the same journey.

Three departures are scheduled in July and August 2021 aboard the 128-passenger 50 Years of Victory, a nuclear-powered icebreaker. This icebreaker was purpose-built to pilot scientific and cargo ships to hard-to-reach areas of the Arctic and along the Northeast Passage.

“No other ice-class vessel used for commercial passenger travel has the proven track record, the reliability and sheer power to muscle its way to this unique destination. Where the frozen sea blocks the way for other ice-class expedition ships, the adventure is just beginning aboard 50 Years of Victory. When not used for North Pole tourism, this vessel can be found supporting and clearing the way through the ice for cargo and energy supply vessels in the Russian High Arctic,” said Nikolay Saveliev, president of Poseidon Expeditions (www.poseidonexpeditions.com/).

This will be Poseidon’s 20th season of operating icebreaker voyages to the North Pole. The program began in 2001 and to date more than 4,600 polar adventurers have traveled north with Poseidon. Travel to 90º north latitude and the North Pole in 2021 will be on the following dates: July 10-22, July 21-Aug. 2, and Aug. 1-13.  Rates for these departures will mirror those for the summer of 2020. Early Bird discounted rates (for bookings confirmed before Oct. 31, 2020) start at $29,445 per person with the discount. In addition to not increasing prices from the 2020 season, Poseidon announced that gratuities for the crew and expedition team will now be included in the 2021 rates.

The 13-day program includes a full day of activities on the ice at the North Pole. After carefully navigating to 90º North, the crew ceremoniously drops the anchor on a sturdy stretch of ice so that guests may disembark onto the frozen sea. Part of the fun is joining hands with fellow passengers and literally walking around the world during a unique International Round Dance. Guests also enjoy a barbeque meal on the ice. Some may opt to take a traditional (but optional) polar plunge into the icy water!

Later in the adventure come Zodiac landings on Franz Josef Land, aninfrequently visited archipelago of 192 islands rich in polar wildlife and stark landscapes in the Russian High Arctic. The program includes one night pre-cruise hotel accommodations in Murmansk and all transfers to/from the airport and ship. Helicopter sightseeing tours are included.

Creating an unforgettable experience will be the task of Poseidon’s 14-member expedition staff, which includes a marine biologist, geologist, glaciologist, historian, geographer, Zodiac master, visual artist, Citizen Science organizer and musician.

50 Years of Victory

This world-class nuclear icebreaker can smash through nearly 10 feet of ice in the high Arctic latitudes. The 525-foot, working vessel carries 128 passengers in comfortable accommodations, all with exterior views and en suite facilities. Public spaces include a dining room; aft salon for lectures, presentations and socializing; a bow-facing bar and lounge; library; a gym, two saunas and swimming pool with heated seawater. The ship is equipped with a modern clinic staffed by a physician. Massage therapy services are available.

Poseidon Expeditions Offers Close Encounters with Reindeer and Polar Bear on High Arctic Cruises

PROVIDENCE, RI, Nov. 20, 2019 – In an ancient ice age the four-legged critter we associate with Santa’s sleigh lived as far south as Tennessee. Whether those reindeer picked up a southern drawl is still up for debate.

What’s non-debatable is that Rangifer tarandus or reindeer (aka caribou), meaning snow shoveler, was so named by theMi’kmaq, who were among original inhabitants of the Atlantic Provinces of Northern Canada.

The specialists in Arctic cruises, Poseidon Expeditions, offers opportunities aplenty in the high Arctic wilderness between Norway and the North Pole to see reindeer as well as the King of the North, polar bear in their natural habitat. On Arctic Wildlife Safari and Best of Svalbard cruises, guests can observe and learn such fun facts about these animals as…

  • A reindeer’s hide is covered with hair follicles that are hollow and that trap air that provides insulation.
  • Their noses warm the air before it reaches the lungs.
  • In the winter, facial hair grows long to the mouth, protecting muzzles while grazing in snow.
  • Its body temperature adjusts to just above freezing to avoid losing body heat in extremely cold conditions.
  • Both male and female reindeer sport antlers.
  • They vocalize through air sacs in their neck, males warning other males away from girlfriends and females communicating with their young.
  • The knees of one subspecies of reindeer make a clicking noise while walking, sounds that allow a herd to stay together in a blizzard.

And about the polar bear?

  • Adult females often weigh between 500 and 600 pounds; males are double these weights. Cubs enter the world at around one pound, females reaching full weight at age five and males by age 10.
  • Ask anyone what color a polar bear is and they’ll reply “white” with total confidence. The fact is, their fur is actually transparent and holds no color. It only appears white because it reflects visible light. The transparent fur also traps in the sun’s heat to help keep the polar bear warm.
  • When polar bears swim, they use their large front paws to propel themselves through the water and their back legs to steer. They can actually move pretty fast at approximately at 6 mph, closing their nostrils when under water.
  • They can go days, even weeks, without eating. When they reach a week or more without food, their metabolism slows down and goes into starvation mode until the next meal.
  • Polar bear cubs learn to freeze or “play dead” while momma bear hunts for food. If they’re caught moving, mom will discipline them, with a smack to the head.
  • Two-thirds of polar bears could disappear by 2050 due to disappearing hunting grounds, or sea ice. They are now compelled to swim such long distances that they are drowning from exhaustion.

While cruising around seldom-visited, natural preserves of the far north, guests may also experience polar wildlife from the perspective of a kayak. Imagine paddling with bearded seals, large and peaceful creatures that are often encountered at close range reposing on ice floes in sheltered bays and fjords. Harbor seals and ringed seals can be seen from a kayak as well. Sometimes massive walrus can also be seen.

Guests may also access beluga whales via kayak. Paddling with these gentle and intelligent creatures in the wild -- hearing their breaths and feeling their inquisitive gaze upon you -- is a life-changing experience, especially if it happens to be a pod of over a hundred beluga whales swimming in long procession past and underneath the kayaks.

Poseidon Expedition’s sea kayak guides are well versed in the wildlife viewing and protection protocols developed by the Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators (AECO) andInternational Association of Antarctica Tour Operators (IAATO).

The rates for 2020 Arctic Wildlife Safari, West Spitsbergen & Polar Ice Edge, are discounted as follows: May 31-June 8, June 7-June 15, June 14-June 22 from $5,895 to $5,305; June 21-July 1 from $7,295 to $6,566 and June 30-July 11 from $8,095 to $7,286. On the June 7 departure guests receive a bonus, the opportunity to mingle with a polar bear expert from the Cincinnati Zoo.

Best of Svalbard, Svalbard & Polar Ice Edge cruises offers three departures in June and July 2020. Children under age 12 travel at half the regular rate when sharing a double-occupancy cabin with an adult. Per person double rates are from $10,095 double in a main deck suite.
