Poseidon Expeditions Sees Increased Demand for Off-Ship Camping in Antarctica, Sea Kayaking in Both Polar Regions

PROVIDENCE, RI, July 21, 2016 –In Antarctica, Amundsen, Scott and Shackleton are among the adventuring giants whose legends live on. Today intrepid travelers can replicate the spirit of their on-land experiences, albeit more comfortably, while spending a night ashore wrapped in a warm bivvy sack surrounded by ice, snow and sky.

About Antarctica Camping: M/V Sea Spirit provides quality synthetic mummy-shaped sleeping bags rated for temperatures to -18ºC (0ºF). The bags are comfortable, roomy, water-repellent and connectable, accommodating body lengths of up to 6.5 feet. Guests are also issued a freshly laundered cotton sleeping bag liner and a full-length insulated foam sleeping pad. Guests may opt to sleep under the stars singly in a bivvy sack that slips over the sleeping bag. This is a non-complicated option that allows the utmost connection to the environment without sacrificing warmth and protection from the elements. These waterproof, breathable nylon bivvy sacks feature contour hoods and provide an additional 5º to 10ºC (9º to 18ºF) of insulation. Partners may also opt to sleep in a deluxe two-person stable, waterproof, freestanding dome tent instead. These measure 87 x 49 inches with additional vestibule space for gear.

Guests opting to bivouac, dig their own fox hole in the frozen world. They have access to a toilet tent for use during the time spent on shore. Guests are invited to disembark at the North Pole where they can straddle the Eastern and Western hemispheres, enjoy a 90º North barbecue and take a plunge into the Arctic Ocean.

The homeward voyage brings guests through Franz Josef Archipelago, a frozen necklace of some 190 islands in the Russian Arctic. Poseidon Expeditions Announces New Polar Expedition Cruises In Arctic and Antarctic for 2017-18

PROVIDENCE, RI, March 3, 2016 – The lure of the polar environment draws travelers onto expedition ships to explore worlds of ice and snow, polar bears and penguins, and the history of heroic figures who began the first conversations about the Arctic and Antarctica.

Poseidon will again offer a wide range of Arctic cruises, including a first-ever voyage on June 15-29, 2017 that explores Iceland’s northern fjords and follows the Arctic Circle east to the Norwegian coast where a number of stops are planned before proceeding north to Bear Island and the Spitsbergen Archipelago. Passengers also will have the unique opportunity to cruise directly from Spitsbergen to Franz Josef Land in the Russian High Arctic on an August 14-29, 2017 expedition.

Arctic rates in 2017 for the all-suite Sea Spirit begin at $8,395 per person, double, and if three people share a spacious Triple Suite the rate is just $5,995 per person. New for 2017 will be the inclusion of a pre-cruise hotel night in either Reykjavik, Iceland, or Longyearbyen, Spitsbergen, depending on the itinerary.

Following the last Arctic voyage to East Greenland in mid-September of 2017, the vessel will position to South America to commence a series of expedition cruises to the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands during the 2017-18 austral summer season. The new Antarctic season also will include the popular Antarctic Circle cruise, which travels below the most southerly of the earth’s five major circles of latitude, approximately 66º south.

Antarctic rates for the 2017-18 season begin at just $7,995 per person in a Triple Suite and $11,195 in a double-occupancy Main Deck Suite.

Sea Spiritoffers all-suite accommodations ranging from 215 to 463 square feet (20-43 square meters).
