SALT LAKE CITY, UT, Sept. 22, 2021 – Balls and teams are the common denominators of two of the newest (and more unusual) clients of Resmark System’s WaiverSign.
WhirlyBall and Big Shots Basketball now count among the many satisfied WaiverSign clients who during the pandemic are especially appreciative of the paperless efficiencies and no contact procedures that come with this leading digital waiver solution.
The sports company known as Big Shots began using WaiverSign in 2020.
“This is one of the best things we have done in 16 years of running Big Shots,” says Jeffrey Schneider, CEO. “Our numbers have been unbelievable. At every event when people walk into a gym they are asked to present a waiver. If they leave the venue and come back, they show their waiver on their phones again. Everything is 100 percent electronic.”
“We work to provide the very best youth basketball events and WaiverSign has become a part of these events,” he says.
Pre WaiverSign, collecting liability releases required a lot of paper. Consider 30 different facilities, some with multiple venues, hosting 60 events a year. “From March to August 2021 we’ve collected waivers for 49,000 people. WaiverSign has made it simple for our clients. We have two people collecting spectator waivers and team registrations.”
Instead of illegible, hard-to-file paper waivers, the digital documents are easily stored and equally easy to access. And scanning for who does and does not have a waiver is easy to do. Staff advise people walking through the doors to pull out their phones and they do a quick check then and there.
“We knew that implementing a waiver system would not be easy, but WaiverSign has been a tremendous boon for us. The digital system also allows us to streamline our operations. Eventually, we want all of our venues run the same way. If you walk into a Big Shots event in Virginia or the Carolinas, protocols will be the same. I think we would be over 60,000 users if certain venues were not still using paper,” adds Schneider.
Adam Elias, Vice President of WhirlyBall, explains that his company utilizes WaiverSign at all of its locations in three states: Colorado, Illinois and Wisconsin. But it was only last summer at the beginning of the pandemic that digital waivers were fully utilized instead of the now old-fashioned paper waivers that clients were requested to fill out but “that as often as not were illegible”.
WhirlyBall adapted WaiverSign to its needs as an amusement company, with most of its guests completing the digital waivers before they come through the door.
“We see tens of thousands of people a year at our high-volume facilities,” said Elias. “WaiverSign offers a great way to manage waivers – replacing the mountains of paperwork we used to deal with. This system offers back-office benefits and has helped to streamline processes when it comes to managing the archives. Overall WaiverSign makes for a more seamless operation.”
The appeal of WhirlyBall is an unbeatable combination of chef-driven menus, rotating craft beer and cocktail selections topped off with bowling, laser tag, and its namesake activity, whirlyball, a mix of lacrosse and bumper cars played by two teams of five.
When requesting waivers, businesses want clients to commit by signature their understanding of the risks involved in pursuing a particular activity. In addition, the waivers also communicate that the pandemic puts at risk all who choose to enter a locale. By acknowledging in advance the risks, the participant assumes responsibility for a decision to partake; and businesses adhering to disease-mitigation protocols may steer clear of liability for illness-related claims.
WaiverSign has experienced a massive spike in signups for its digital liability waiver application services. In the first quarter 2021, WaiverSign saw a 32 percent increase in the number of online waiver accounts signing up compared to the same time period in 2020.
