MANCHESTER, UK, Oct. 26, 2018– Three European capitals offer dedicated runners the chance to ply their passion by running half marathons in combo with sightseeing.
Through the UK-based Sports Tours International, runners can combine a city break with a competition that distance-wise isn’t too challenging.Sports Tours International (https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/) specializes in helping runners and cyclists gain entry to coveted competitions worldwide.
“The main difference between a full and half marathon is the impact on the runners. Those doing full marathons are advised to keep off their legs in the days leading up to a race. This isn’t great when traveling with a non-runner who’s keen to see the sites of London, Paris or Berlin,” said Ross Litherland, Sports Marketing Manager for Sports Tours International.
The first race on Sports Tours International’s spring 2019 half marathon calendar includes London’s newest half marathon:
March 10 - London’s 2019 Vitality Big Half, 2nd edition, offers a lodging package of two to five nights with guaranteed entry for overseas runners. The route that starts at Tower Bridge courses through four London boroughs: Southwark, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets and Greenwich, ending by the Cutty Sark. Travel packages including guaranteed entry for overseas runners are from £369 per person double. (A non-running partner can deduct £150 from the advertised prices as a non-runner discount.)
Included are guaranteed entry into the 2019 Vitality Big Half, daily breakfasts and all hotel taxes. In 2018 there were more than 11,000 runners of all ages, backgrounds and abilities, many of whom came from the four London boroughs the event passes through. They were led from the front by Sir Mo Farah who beat a world-class field that included 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon winner Daniel Wanjiru to win the race. The Vitality Big Half has been created by London Marathon Events Ltd., the world’s leading organizer of mass participation sports events that include the Virgin Money London Marathon, the Prudential RideLondon festival of cycling and Swim Serpentine. For details see https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/the-vitality-big-half/
Occurring on the same day across the channel is…
March 10 - Paris Half Marathon 2019, supported by a two or three-night lodging package at Hotel de La Porte Doreen near the event start and finish. Arate from £215 per person double includes accommodation and daily breakfast. An early bird race entry fee booking is £50. The ‘Semi de Paris’ is an IAAF Bronze Labelevent famous for its iconic landmarks and romantic culture. Some 40,000 runners are expected to course through continuous musical entertainment. For details see https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/paris-half-marathon/
The third event now open for registration is…
April 7 - Berlin Half Marathon 2019 that repeats a tradition first begun in 1985, today attracting over 30,000 runners annually, with 200,000 spectators cheering runners on. Sports Tours International’s guests lodge for three nights at the 4-star Novotel Berlin Am Tiergarten in the heart of Berlin, ideally placed for the Berlin Half Marathon weekend. The per person double rate is from £279. Included are the option to buy a guaranteed entry into the 2019 Berlin Half Marathon; the option to purchase a timing chip, event t-shirt and medal engraving as optional extra’s; and services of a Sports Tours International Representative over the marathon weekend. An early booking fee is £40.00 per entry. For details see https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/berlin-half-marathon/

MANCHESTER, UK, May 8, 2018– Runners of all ability levels are invited to sprint through time near a Bronze Age burial mound, a 5th century Roman ditch and the ruins of a 12th century castle in a four-day running festival June 14-17, the Tour of Tameside, in Tameside near Manchester, UK.
Sports Tours International (https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/) as the host of the June 14-17, 2018, Tour of Tameside can sort out all of the entry and travel arrangements for this annual celebration of running expected to draw hundreds of international aficionados this early summer. This is just one of a series of events owned and operated by Sports Tours International that specializes in helping runners and cyclists gain entry to coveted global competitions.
“We don’t just take runners to events around the world; we organise events ourselves and our expertise shows. Here at Sports Tours International we live and breathe sport,” said the company’s Head of Product and Operations Alex de Waard, from offices in Manchester, minutes from Tameside. He notes that that there are direct flights from North America to Manchester, the UK’s second largest city.
A variety of running routes and terrains on roads and hills will challenge participants physically and mentally, with all stages carefully chosen to be achievable for runners of all abilities. The Tour of Tameside, founded in 1983 by Olympian and marathon legend Ron Hill, was re-energized when Sports Tours International took over the reins. This running event has been called “The Ultimate Running Challenge.”
The Tour of Tameside begins with a 10k cross-country run on the eve of June 14. The trail takes in two superb local country parks and a variety of running terrain including a steep gradient and long flats on surfaces ranging from tarmac to cobblestones to woodchip paths. A six-mile Hell on the Fell Race is held on June 15 with an evening start that pits runner against the landscape, taking on the steep climb and steep descent – a guaranteed challenge for all ability levels. It ends later that night with a ceremony crowning the male, female and age category winners. The Hero Half Marathon has a mid-morning start on June 16. Runners will cover the 13.1 mile half marathon journey on a trail that parallels a disused railway line. The Tour of Tameside’s finale is the Dr. Ron Hyde 7-Mile Race on the morning of June 17. Afterwards, all runners and their guests will retire into Hyde Town Hall for the post-race presentation ceremony and to toast the four days of running.
Sports Tours International suggests that after this excitement in Tameside concludes that runners and their companions tag on a break to Edinburgh and Scotland in the north, explore Britain’s beautiful Lake District or scoot on down to London.

MANCHESTER, UK, April 25, 2018– The sports world has created a new breed of migratory bird. These are flocks of male and female marathon runners who descend annually on six international marathons (Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City). While it may be just the elites chasing the cash prizes, everyone else is after the Six Star Finisher Medal given to those amateurs who challenge and accomplish all six of the majors. See: https://www.worldmarathonmajors.com/everyday-champions/six-star-finishers/.
This series is the ultimate challenge for those who want to experience an amazing achievement in fascinating cities. But one city stands out from the crowd. More marathon records have been established in Berlin than any of the other majors.
In past years nearly 75,000 runners in one year alone requested to enter the BMW Berlin Marathon in a field limited to 40,000, advised Sports Tours International https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/.
To assure that every marathoner fulfills the dream of joining the Berlin field, Sports Tours International guarantees entry to marathons requiring individual entries. The company also arranges a variety of inclusive accommodations packages for competitors and for non-running visitors who want to track the drama of such stars as Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge who won the BMW Berlin Marathon in 2017.
This marathon, famous for being flat and fast, started in the Grunewald forest in 1974 and moved to West Berlin in 1981. Over recent years the BMW Berlin Marathon has provided nine world records, including Dennis Kimetto's marathon world record of 2:02:57 in Berlin in 2014. The female course record 2:19:12 was set here in 2005.
The September 16, 2018 BMW Berlin Marathon starts and finishes on Strasse des 17, running past the magnificent Angel of Peace statue and through the Tiergarten district before continuing past the Reichstag at 7Km and the Berliner Dom at 9Km. The field begins to spread out and the race begins to move along quickly where runners can start picking up speed and pace at 12Km while passing the lovely fountain at Strausberger Platz.
The crowds continue to pick up as does the noise, and it’s all supplemented with more than 60 bands lining the route. The course is one big sightseeing loop through one of the most exciting cities in the world.
Guaranteed entries are available with travel packages through Sports Tours International. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/berlin-marathon/

MANCHESTER, UK, April 19, 2018 – Cyclo sportives and Gran Fondos are lengthy, challenging, mass participation cycling events that follow the same routes conquered by professional racers. Participating in one provides the opportunity to ride on some of the most notable and legendary climbs and descents in competitive cycling history.
Sports Tours International (https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/) offers travel and support packages to ride in a wide variety of the world’s finest cyclo sportive and Gran Fondo events. They secure entries for many annually over-subscribed events including perennial favorites such as La Marmotte, Maratona d les Dolomites and L’ Etape du Tour. These are also quite popular with North Americans looking to combine a cycling event with a European vacation.
L'Étape du Tour 2018 on July 8 is the only cyclo sportive that allows amateur riders to test themselves on closed roads on the exact same route as a Tour de France stage. It is almost always in the Pyrenees or the Alps and often falls on a Tour rest day so it makes a great highlight in any trip to follow Tour de France’s mountain stages. L'Étape du Tour 2018 takes in stage 10 of the Tour de France, Annecy to Le Grand Bornand in the Alps. Riding out from Lake Annecy will be 15,000 cyclists on a 169km route that takes in Col de la Croix Fry, Col de Romme and an unusual gravel section. The finish is at Le Grand-Bornand, a resort in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France.
Riders and guests will enjoy a festival of cycling over the weekend in Annecy, an alpine town known for canals and cobbled streets. Sports Tours International’s L'Étape du Tour2018 four-day/three-night tour package includes guaranteed entry. The company is one of only a handful of operators who can guarantee entry to the event. The package includes accommodations at a range of hotels, round trip airport transfers from Geneva, overland bike transfer, bike rental and storage, complimentary coach accommodations for traveling companions to witness the excitement, three breakfasts, and, depending on the hotel, three dinners, staff support along the race course and more. Per person, double occupancy rates begin at £549and go up to £699 for four-star accommodations. Self-drive packages are also available. While guaranteed, an additional cost is the actual entry fee to L'Étape du Tour2018. For non-riders, a free coach from Annecy to the finish in Le Grand Bornand is offered with return to Annecy later in the day. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/event-categories/etape-du-tour/
La Marmotte Gran Fondo (French) Alps also on July 8 is an extremely tough event for the 8,500 riders. This is a 170km alpine climbing bonanza between Bourg d’Oisans and Alpe d’Huez with 5,000m of climbing. The event does not take place on closed roads but there are rolling road closures. The Marmotte is a firm favorite for foreign riders with the field containing just 20% French riders. There are no cut off points enroute. Packages similar to L'Étape du Tour2018 are available. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/la-marmotte/
2018 Maratona dles Dolomites on July 1 exemplifies closed road Italian Gran Fondo riding at its very best. This event with 8,500 riders is one of the toughest cycling events around, tough not for distance (138km) but for the amount of climbing packed into the route. The climbs are steeper, in general, than both the Alps and Pyrenees! Participants and guests lodge in the Alta Badia area for seven or four nights. Most hotels are on a half board basis with breakfasts and dinners included. Some have spa and wellness facilities.Packages similar to L'Étape du Tour2018 are available. See https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/maratona-dles-dolomites/
Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 on July 29 forms part of the London 2012 Olympics legacy events for cycling. This is an opportunity to cycle on closed roads around London’s many landmarks and into the county of Surrey. Most importantly for cyclo sportive riders is riding a route that replicates much of the 2012 Olympics Road Race course. Some 20,000 riders are anticipated. The new Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46-mile distance event takes place on the same day as the 100, setting off after all the “100” riders have departed. This is ideal for those wanting the RideLondon experience, without the stress of riding 100 miles. Climbs on Leith Hill and Box Hill on this ride aren’t meant to replicate the exertion it takes to climb in the Alps. The race returns to Central London for a finish on The Mall. Later in the afternoon there will also be a Pro cycling event. Packages similar to L'Étape du Tour2018 are available. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/ridelondon/.
