This UK company’s resources stand ready to link competitive runners with such major marathon hot spots as London, Paris and Rome as well as a few more unusual ones such as The Great Wall of China, Everest Basecamp and Stockholm.
“We are on track in 2018 for our most successful year ever with a big rise in bookings across both the spring and autumn marathon seasons,” reports the company. Here’s the line-up of upcoming events to consider.
April 22, 2018 London Marathon is one of the most popular, competitive and over-subscribed running events in the world. Sports Tours International does not offer entries to the London marathon but does offer accommodation packages for runners and friends with staff support and transport to the start of the race. A two-night weekend includes city center accommodation, a hotel reception, coach for runners only to the start, and more. Sport Tours International offers guaranteed entry to a choice of three events: marathon, half marathon or 8.5k fun run. The company also offers a choice of hotels for five or six nights, airport transfers and optional sightseeing tours. MANCHESTER, UK, Jan. 17, 2018– Here’s a shout out to fans of competitive cycling.
A UK-based outfitter, Sports Tours International, makes all the arrangements for a spring-in-Italy vacation that includes ringside views of thrills and probable spills during the first cycling pro tour race on the 2018 calendar, Giro d’Italia. Plus Sports Tours International guests can cycle on the same routes where the pros will be beating their hearts out.
This year the Giro qualifies as an international nail biter before it begins. Expected to compete, among others, are Fabio Aru, an Italian on UAE Team Emirates; Esteban Chaves, a Peruvian on Australia’s Orica Scott; and Louis Meintjes, a South African racing for Johannesburg’s Dimension Data. And while it’s not 100 percent confirmed, Tom Dumoulin (last year’s winner), a Dutch rider for UCI WorldTeam, might also be riding.
Plus, adding to the sizzle, providing that he can overcome controversies that have recently engulfed him, 2017 Tour de France champ Chris Froome, age 33, a Brit racing for Team Sky,will tackle this unpredictable and wily course for the first time since 2010.
Sports Tours International is an Official Tour Operator for Giro d’Italia 2018. Its vacation arrangements include lodging and meal plans and access to VIP treatment at finish lines and hospitality suites. This UK company is the world’s most experienced (30 years) provider of vacations that are built around world-class competitions.
This 101st edition of the Giro runs May 4 to May 27, 2018. Early stages in Sicily lead up to the tough mountain (Etna) finish of Stage 6 before winding through central Italy to near Venice and the Alps. The route features eight summit finishes and two further uphill finishes which include in stage 14 Monte Zoncolan’s 1730m climb (maximum 22 percent), arguably the toughest climb in Italy and possibly the toughest of any Grand Tour.
Sports Tours International guests will enjoy fantastic views from the top of the mountain while immersing themselves in the atmosphere of a key battle on a Giro d’Italia 2018 - The Final 10 Days tour May 18-28. The rate for this 11-day vacation package is from £2,359.00 per person double. Guests enjoy VIP hospitality on mountain stages and can bike (supported) such famous Giro climbs as Monte Zoncolan and Colle delle Finestre. A rest day on Lake Garda means exploring lakeside villages, the Dolomites and more.

From here guests can finish their tour in Milan or travel by train to Rome and for an additional fee lodge at a hotel across from the Coliseum and be positioned for the final stage on May 27. This package includes, among others, guide-supported transfers on customized minibuses with trailers and roof bike (bike rentals available) racks; airport (Venice) and train station (Milan) transfers; breakfasts and dinners with wine; and accommodations (2 nights in Ovaro at the foot of Monte Zoncolan, 4 nights in Riva del Garda on the shores of Lake Garda, 2 nights in Susa near the Colle delle Finnestre and 1 night at a hotel at Milan Malpensa airport).
In addition to this eleven day trip is an eight day optionin the Alps, Giro d'Italia 2018 - The Final 7 Days, focusing on Stage 19 that features the Colle delle Finestre, the highest climb – think 55 hairpins on a gravel surface -- of the Giro d’Italia, which stands at a grueling 2178m. The penultimate stage is from Susa to Cervinia, where the general classification will be confirmed. The per person double rate is from £1,959.00 and is offered May 21-28, 2018.
A Giro d'Italia 2018 - Zoncolan Weekend package is offered May 18-21 over four days and three nights, from £729.00 per person double. This is a great opportunity to spend a weekend at the toughest climb in professional cycling, the Monte Zoncolan.
The race eventually heads to Rome for Stage 21 on May 27 and the victory parade where the peloton will ride through historic streets. Here the winner will be presented with the famous pink jersey in front of thousands of spectators flooding the streets of Rome. Giro d'Italia 2018 - 2 or 3 Nights In Rome with breakfast plans and hospitality at the Rome finish are available from £289.00 or £429.00 respectively, per person, double.

The excitement builds around a 154km route from Arras Citadelle / Roubaix which include 21.7 (13 miles) kilometers of cobbled roadway. Stage 9 features multiple segments of the famous farm road cobbles, which in the rain can turn to mud. In the 2014 Tour de France it rained and Chris Froome was forced to abandon the Tour after crashing twice. It’s the only edition of the Tour in the past five years that Froome didn’t win. This segment follows riders as they tackle two hilly stages in Brittany. This is followed by two transition stages which initially look to be for the sprinters; however cross winds could easily split the peloton and theGC (principal riders). The Dreux / Amiens Métropole stage is on Bastille Day, guaranteeing a fantastic atmosphere. For details see https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/2018-tour-de-france-brittany-to-roubaix/.
Stages 10 to 12 -- 2018 Tour de France - Annecy to Alpe d'Huez, July 16-21, 2018: This 6 day/5 night program follows the excitement of the first mountain stages in the French Alps and the first time ever tackling a gravel road on the climb to Plateau des Glieres. Gravel riding is one of cycling’s hottest trends. Stage 10 runs from Annecy to a mountaintop finish on Le Grand-Bornand. Unpaved roads are more taxing on the riders’ legs and increase the risk of a puncture or mechanical problem. This stage could inject some suspense into the Tour’s second week of racing. With Stage 12 comes the crazy atmosphere on the 21 bends of Alpe d’Huez. This tour to ride and watch will include VIP hospitality access, the Tour de France road book, hotels in Megeve and Les 2 Alpes and daily ride options but also welcomes non-riders. The per person, double rate is from £1049. For details see https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/2018-tour-de-france-lake-annecy-to-alpe-dhuez/.
Another package is 2018 Tour de France - The Pyrenean Stages 16 to 20, July 23-29, 2018: Stage 17 in the Pyrenees is the shortest (40 miles) stage in recent times but features three difficult climbs. Stage 19 features the famous Col du Tourmalet.A per person double, seven day/six night package from £1229 includesairport transfers from Toulouse Blagnac airport, hotel accommodations with breakfasts in Bagneres de Bigorre and Biarritz, some dinners and more. For details seehttps://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/2018-tour-de-france-the-pyrenean-stages/.
Sports Tours International offers a variety of July 7-29, 2018, VIP hospitality options. One-day VIP programs include a day on a stage in an official Tour de France car, Tour de France helicopter experience, access to the start village, VIP finish hospitality, plus exclusive experiences on the Champs Elysees for the finish in Paris. Prices are per person and availability is strictly limited to just a few places per stage. For prices and details see https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/tour-de-france-vip-one-day-experiences/.
Another favoriteis the Finale in Paris. The 2018 Tour de France has its traditional finish on the iconic Champs Elysees. A selection of hospitality and grandstand options allow guests to watch the finish of the Tour de France in Paris. These are priced from £389 per person. For details see https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/tour-de-france-paris-grandstand-vip-hospitality/.

An Opportunity to Ride a Stage of the 2018 Tour de France Over Closed Roads on the Same Route Pros Ride Nine Days Later
MANCHESTER, UK, – Sports Tours International, the UK-based provider of vacations built around nail-biting, world-class cycling and running competitions, is taking reservations now for amateur cyclists who want to participate in L'Étape du Tour 2018, an opportunity to tackle a mountain stage of the 2018 Tour de France.
L'Étape du Tour 2018 is scheduled for Sunday, July 8, 2018, in Annecy, France. The finish is at Le Grand-Bornand, a resort in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. This finish was used in the 2009 Tour de France on Stage 17 when Alberto Contador famously went against team orders and left Lance Armstrong on both the Col du Romme and the Col de la Colombière.
Riders experience highs and lows while traversing a distance of 169km and climbing to heights of up to 4,000km, just like the pros when the 2018 Tour de France begins on July 7 and runs through July 29. For example, the Col de la Colombière will be the final climb for Stage 10 (Annecy to Le Grand Bornand, 159km) on July 17.
Riders and their guests will enjoy a festival of cycling over the weekend in Annecy. Lake Annecy is a focal point of Annecy, an alpine town known for canals and cobbled streets. Annecy is well known for the heritage of its buildings and natural landscape. It is situated beside one of the purest lakes in Europe, at the foot of the Alpine massifs of the Aravis and the Bauges, but close to Switzerland and Italy.
Sports Tours International’s L'Étape du Tour 2018 four-day/three-night tour package includes guaranteed entry when booked through Sports Tours International. With direct-to-the-public entries nearly sold out, Sports Tours will become one of only a handful of operators who can guarantee entry to the event. Also included in the package are accommodations at a range of hotels, roundtrip airport transfers from Geneva, overland bike transfer, bike rental and storage, complimentary coach accommodations for traveling companions to witness the excitement, three breakfasts, and, depending on the hotel, three dinners, staff support along the race course and more. Per person, double occupancy rates begin at £519and go up to £699 for four-star accommodations. Self-drive packages are also available. While guaranteed, an additional cost is the actual entry fee to L'Étape du Tour2018.
For non-riders, a free coach from Annecy to the finish in Le Grand Bornand is offered with return to Annecy later in the day.

MANCHESTER, UK, Sept. 13, 2017– Sports Tours International is the official tour operator for an Oct. 7-8 weekend on Italy’s Lake Como that focuses on the 2017 Giro di Lombardia (Oct. 7) that begins in Bergamo and ends in Como. Dubbed Italy’s race of the falling leaves, the event, dating to 1905, is the last of this season’s five “Monuments,” cycling competitions that rank as the oldest and most demanding one-day events on the European pro circuit. Sports Tours International, a leading Europeanprovider of competitive sports event-related vacations, suggests that for those who love bicycling, life doesn’t get much better than this weekend in iconic Como.
Think the excitement of a Saturday morning bicycle ride on the last leg of Giro di Lombardia. Then toss in the possibility of participating in the new-for-2017 sportive Gran Fondo II Lombardia on Oct. 8. This 245km ride covers some of the course on which pro riders test their mettle the previous day.
A weekend package includes transfers on Friday and Monday to/from Milan-Malpensa, three nights accommodation (taxes included) with breakfasts in Como, a guided ride on Lombardia day to watch the race, optional (extra fee) finish line hospitality on a nail-biting finish. The package also includes support from STI’s driver and bike guide, in-resort transfers for guest and bike, secure bike storage at the hotel, the official 2017 Il Lombardia road book, a guided ride on Lombardia day to watch the race, a comprehensive travel itinerary and an STI cycling jersey made by Santini. The per person rate is £549 per person double.Guests can also rent Pinarello Ultegra bikes.
The new Gran Fondo follows on Oct. 8, offering the opportunity (additional fee) to ride the final section of the route of the Il Lombardia pro race the day after watching the professionals. The most famous climb – albeit mythical – that the pros tackle is Madonna del Ghisallo that forms the heart of the pro race and that’s also central to the Gran Fondo that will be introduced on this weekend. A chapel lies at the top of the ascent and is the point where, according to legend, the Count of Ghisallo was saved from bandits by the appearance of an image of the Virgin Mary. As a result of this, the Madonna del Ghisallo became the patron saint of travelers and later the patroness of cyclists. Next to the chapel the Museum of Cycling, opened in 2006, showcases hundreds of memorabilia.

As winter approaches, cyclists and their events often move indoors. Case in point is Ghent 6, on Nov. 15-20. 2017, representing the world of six-day track races. The Ghent velodrome is an intimate venue and the track is only 166m long (to be used in the Olympics, it needs to be 250m). Most spectators will attend for a day or two, with demand highest on weekends.
Sports Tours International’s Ghent 6 Track Cycling 2017 (2017 Lotto Zesdaagse Vlaanderen-Gent) offers tickets for all nights in the legendary “Kuipke” cycling stadium, as well as one, two and three-night lodging package at a Ghent hotel in city center within walking distance of the track. A party atmosphere prevails at the track that seats 5,000.
As reported in The Guardian, “The racing is fast-flowing and near constant over the evening – 26 riders in teams of two, pedalling in a series of races for almost six hours straight, from 8pm to 2am, each covering close to 100km a night – flat out – for six nights. It is the cycling equivalent of the Depression-era dance marathons …”
Optional visits can be arranged to the Koksijde Cyclocross on Sunday and to Brugge on STI’s UK coach tour on Saturday. For more details please see https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/ghent-6/.

MANCHESTER, UK, August 1, 2017–Sports Tours International for nearly 30 years has organized trips to view Europe’s Spring Cycling Classics. For 2018 they have announced four tours in three countries covering the first 4 ‘Monuments’ of the cycling season: Milan San Remo in Italy; Tour of Flanders and Liege Bastogne Liege in Belgium; and Paris Roubaix in France.
Sports Tours International (https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/) suggests booking event-viewing packages early to guarantee being in the heart of the action and perhaps riding the official cyclosportive with transport and accommodation for the tours, guaranteed entry and support to cyclosportives as applicable.
The Spring Classics jump start Sports Tours International’s 2018 season which focuses on the world’s most compelling cycling competitions such as Tour de France.
First on is Italy’s Milan San Remo pro race on Mar. 17, 2018, covering a distance of 293km. Guests can ride the Gran Fondo San Remo after watching the race. A travel package includes VIP access that is also available as a stand-alone option. A weekend travel package includes the opportunity to ride across the official finish line in San Remo ahead of the race arrival; on-site photographs; a behind-the-scenes tour before watching the pros finish; on Sunday riding the final part of the route in the 100km Gran Fondo ‘La Classicissima’; VIP access; three meals for three days; hotel accommodation and more. Northern Belgium’s 2018 Tour of Flanders opens with a Mar. 31 cyclosportive in advance of an Apr. 1 pro race famous for short, sharp climbs from Antwerp into the famous Muur van Geraardsbergen, the deciding climb for Philippe Gilbert’s win in 2017. The final section follows the usual finishing circuit with the Oude Kwaremont and Paterberg. Sports Tours International supports all four distance options and includes the opportunity to cycle the full 230 km from Antwerp. A three-night package from Friday to Monday is from £249 per person double, for bed and breakfast. Additional packages are offered. See:https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/tour-of-flanders/
In France the 2018 Paris Roubaix Pro Race covers 257.5 km on Apr. 9. In this year’s summer-like conditions, Belgian Greg van Avermaet won the 2017 “Queen of Classics” ahead of Szdenek Stybar and Sebastian Langeveld. Many consider this to be the best one-day classic cycling race to watch. Sports Tours International offers accommodation in Senlis, close to the start in Compiegne. Two nights is from £199 per person, double, and includes bed and breakfast, a sandwich and drink at the finish in the Roubaix velodrome and rep support.
A “Start to Finish Hospitality Experience” at £525 per person takes in the 2018 Paris – Roubaix including its finale at the Roubaix Velodrome from the comfort of the hospitality area. This is a great day of watching one of cycling’s iconic cycling races. From the Start in Compiegne to the Finish at the Roubaix velodrome, guests will be at the heart of the drama enjoying this classic in an unparalleled environment. Hotel accommodation for 1, 2 or 3 nights is also available at a 4 star hotel in Roubaix at an additional cost. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/paris-roubaix-pro-race/
Back in Belgium, in the Wallonia region of the country, is the Apr. 21-22 Liege-Bastogne-Liege Challenge and Pro Race spanning three nights. This senior among cycling’s classics was first held in 1892. It embraces the hilliest parts of Belgium, along routes typical of the Ardennes. A weekend can include riding the Liege Bastogne Liege Challenge on the Saturday ahead of watching the professionals on Sunday. Hotel only, overland bike transport and VIP and Hospitality options available. See: https://www.sportstoursinternational.co.uk/events/liege-bastogne-liege/
About Cyclosportives: Commonly referred to as sportives, these rank with gran fondos as firm fixtures on the worldwide cycling calendar, offering both seasoned racers and newcomers to a sport that can be as gruelling or straightforward as they wish. A cyclosportive is characterised by being a mass participation cycling event. In the UK, Australia and parts of the USA they're billed as non-competitive events. In Europe there is more of a competitive element with categories and prizes awarded to the fastest finishers. Most, if not all, sportives use timing chips ensuring a healthy level of competitiveness is always present no matter what. Results are usually published in detail on the event website and often have gold, silver or bronze time standards. Some riders look for an element of competition, perhaps by signing up with a bunch of mates for a burn up, or trying to be in the first or fastest group to finish. Others, who might find road racing a little strenuous, can ride at a steadier pace and still enjoy the benefits of a ride with marked directions, feed stops and mechanical support.
