Canada is Calling! Austin Adventures Kicks off Canada Month With “Adventures in Alberta” Webinar

BILLINGS, MT, Mar. 3, 2015 – With the U.S. dollar doing so well against the Canadian dollar, 1 USD = 1.25 CAD, now is a good time for Americans to visit their neighbor to the north. To celebrate the strong dollar and highlight its distinctive itineraries to more than one provincial paradise, Austin Adventures is celebrating March as “Canada Month” and the public is invited to partake.

The Billings, MT-based travel company is kicking off 31 days of Canada with “Alberta Week,” seven days dedicated to all things Alberta. The week’s most anticipated event is “Adventures in Alberta,” a free webinar presented by Dan Austin, founder and president of Austin Adventures (http://www.austinadventures.com/). The webinar will take place on Wednesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. EST, and attendees who book an Austin Adventures Alberta vacation by April 1 will receive $200 off per adult. All webinar attendees will be entered to win an Alberta-themed gift basket courtesy of Travel Alberta who will be co-sponsoring the event. Click HERE for more details and to register.

“We send guests all over the world, but because of its natural beauty and proximity to the U.S., Alberta is one of our favorite places on the planet.” said Austin. “With the exchange rate as strong as it is, we’re noticing a huge increase in interest from travelers who have the Canadian Rockies on their radars, and we’re more than happy to help them explore the region with our experienced guides.”

For 2015, Austin Adventures is once again offering its best-selling Alberta: Banff to Jasper multisport vacation for adults. Trip highlights include hiking to the turquoise waters of Lake Louise, donning crampons and trekking across Athabasca Glacier, rafting the Class IV rapids of the Kicking Horse River, biking the scenic Bow Valley Parkway and of course, shopping and dining in the picturesque mountain town of Banff.

In addition to its adult adventure, the company offers an Alberta Family: Banff to Jasper vacation package with a similar itinerary. The only difference is that some of the more challenging activities are scaled back to accommodate families with children ages 6-16. For example, the rafting portion of the trip takes place on the more kid-friendly Kananaskis River.

Both vacations are all-inclusive, guided 6-day, 5-night packages. Prices for adults start at $2,998 per person and for the family vacation, prices for children start at $2,398.  Pre-set departures for 2015 begin in July; however, the company’s adventure travel consultants can arrange for exclusive departures and create custom tours and packages for private groups to fit individual schedules.

Rounding out the Austin Adventures Canada lineup is a 6-day, 5-night British Columbia Family Vacation Package that begins in Vancouver and traverses the scenic Sea to Sky Highway before ending up at the turquoise waters in Joffre Lakes Provincial Park. With a home base at an upscale lodge near Whistler Mountain, guests are treated to distinctive dining, shopping and days filled with guided adventures including hiking, biking, rafting and horseback riding. Departures begin in June and start at $2,898 per adult and $2,318 per child.

All of Austin Adventures’ 2015 trips can be found in the Austin Adventures award-winning adventure vacation catalogs and on its new website, www.austinadventures.com. “Maycations” – Eight Memorable Trips to Take this May

Austin Adventures Shares Valuable Insight On Best Vacations to Take in Late Spring

BILLINGS, MT, Feb. 18, 2015 – With record low temperatures being reported across the country, many American travelers are anxiously awaiting the arrival of spring and the warmer weather the season brings. According to the adventure travel consultants at Austin Adventures there is no bad time to travel between April and June; however the month of May is optimal for most spring-time travelers.

“We’ve been in the business of planning vacations for more than 40 years now, and May has always been a popular travel month for guests afflicted with ‘spring fever,’” says Dan Austin, founder and president of Austin Adventures (http://www.austinadventures.com/). “The savviest of travelers know this shoulder season month offers favorable weather and the best value in terms of selection and pricing, but sometimes, they need help choosing their destination.”

For that reason, the award-winning adventure travel company, which offers trips to all seven continents, has compiled a list of Maycations—timely vacations to take during the month of May. They range from domestic tours that allow travelers to hike the colorful canyons of Zion National Park to international adventures that include snorkeling along Spain’s beloved Costa Brava.

2015’s Most Compelling “Maycations”

1.    Bryce Canyon and Zion National Parks– Seeing southern Utah’s red rock formations is a surreal experience, especially during May when the wildflowers are in full bloom. May tends to be drier than March and April, but water levels are still high (thanks to melting snow), so expect to see breathtaking waterfalls.

2.    Havasupai– Spring is the perfect time to take a dip in Arizona’s most sacred spring-fed travertine pools. Hike to Havasu Falls before summer’s monsoon season, and enjoy low humidity and comfortable hiking temperatures—highs in the mid-80’s and lows in the mid-50’s.

3.    Machu Picchu– May could not be a more convenient time to complete one of the world’s most famous mountain treks. Experience Machu Picchu in all its glory at the start of the country’s dry season and just before the summer visitors arrive in droves.

4.    Dalmatian Coast– The Adriatic Coast is spectacular in the summer; however, flights to Europe cost more during July and August and rooms can be hard to come by. Consider exploring this 350-mile stretch of shore during May – when temperatures are perfect for outdoor adventures, prices are lower and you’ll enjoy more personalized service.

5.    Catalonia– With its warm yet relatively mild temperatures, May is the perfect time for a multisport vacation in northeastern Spain. Bike the secluded Via Verde, snorkel along the Costa Brava and hike in the foothills of the Pyrenees without the hassle of high temperatures and humidity.

6.    Provence– Fall in love with the most seductive region of France months before the locals go on holiday. The warm days lend themselves to al fresco dining which is perfect for admiring the lush, green countryside from the comfort of a roadside café.

7.    Romantic Road– There’s no better time than May to ride along the Middle Ages’ most famous and scenic, trade routes. May marks the beginning of the region’s unofficial “festival season” so it’s not hard to come by cultural entertainment, authentic food and unforgettable German beer!

8.    Holland– Head to Holland in mid-May, and you can walk among millions of blossoming flowers at Keukenhof—a.k.a. the “Garden of Europe.” The theme for this year’s eight-week-long event is Van Gogh, 125 Years of Inspiration.

For adults and families looking for award-winning itineraries matched with unbeatable customer service, Austin Adventures offers an array of scheduled group departures to each of the above destinations. Trips range in price from $1,648 per person for a 5-Day/4-Night Havasupai Hiking Tour to $4,798 for a 9-Day/8-Night Machu Picchu Vacation Package.

For adventurers looking to take Maycations that are a little more “off the beaten path,” the company offers custom vacations and exclusive departures. All of the 2015 trips can be found in the Austin Adventures award-winning adventure vacation catalogs and on the company’s new website, www.austinadventures.com. Austin Adventures Launches ‘President’s Trips’ Series - Unique Opportunity to Travel with Industry Icons

BILLINGS, MT – Jan. 20, 2015 – One of the perks of using a travel company to book a small group guided vacation is getting to know your travel partners in a way that’s only possible with a small number of people. When the group is hosted by the travel company’s president and his wife, the group dynamic promises to be far from routine. To celebrate a legacy of 40+ years in the adventure travel business, Billings, MT based Austin Adventures is kicking off 2015 by launching a new President’s Trips series of adventures.

The award-winning travel company will run three trips, two of which will be hosted by Dan Austin, president and founder of Austin Adventures, and his wife, Carol Austin, an adventure travel consultant at Austin Adventures. The third trip will be guided by Ron van Dijk, the company’s European Operations Director who is celebrating his 40th anniversary of guiding this year.

“Customer service is our strong suit, and we always make a point to get to know each guest like family, but we seldom get a chance to travel with them,” says Dan Austin. “That’s why my wife and I are so excited to pack our bags, visit some of our favorite places and share our years of travel experience with the people who allow us to keep living out our dream of operating an adventure travel company.”

Dan is a travel industry veteran with three decades of experience creating and marketing adventure vacations all over the world. Under his leadership, Austin Adventures has received countless industry awards including Travel +  Leisure’s “Best Tour Operator in the World.” In 2013, he sold the company to Xanterra Parks & Resorts, and has stayed on as managing president along with his wife Carol who has 17 years of experience selling trips and creating customized vacation packages.

Van Dijk is a native of Holland who has lived all over Europe and is fluent in five languages. When he’s not out guiding, which he’s been doing for 40 years, he runs the Austin Adventures Europe office and manages the European guides including his son and daughter who are also active in the business.

The 2015 President’s Trips series will include two of the company’s signature multisport tours: the Alaska Kenai Adventure, and the Italy: South Tyrol and The Dolomites tour. The third trip will be a Venetian Passageways cruise operated by Windstar Cruises – one of Austin Adventures’ sister companies also owned by Xanterra Parks & Resorts.

The Alaska Kenai Adventure that the Austins will be hosting is a 6-day/5-night adult trip that allows guests to experience Kenai Fjords National Park via hiking, biking, kayaking and cruising. Dan designed this itinerary, his first ever, more than 20 years ago, and as a former longtime resident of Alaska, he knows the “Land of the Midnight Sun” as only a local can. The trip departs on June 14, 2015 and starts at $3,298 per person, double.

The Venetian Passageways trip that the Austins will be hosting is a 9-day small ship cruise trip that explores the city of Venice before voyaging east to follow ancient trade routes. Guests stay on the 212-passenger Star Pride yacht which takes them to ports in Italy, Greece, Albania, Croatia and Montenegro. The cruise departs from Venice on July 26, 2015 and starts at $3,999 per person, double.

The Italy: South Tyrol and The Dolomites tour that van Dijk will be leading as a celebration of his 40th anniversary as a guide is a 6-day/5-night adult vacation that allows guests to explore the Alps and Dolomites via hiking and biking excursions. Highlights include a visit to Trauttmansdorff Castle, lunch at a local mountain farmstead and a cable car ride to the charming town of St. Ulrich. The trip departs on July 26, 2015 and starts at $3,398 per person, double.

The Alaska and South Tyrol trips are limited to 12 people, and reservations for all three trips can be made by calling 1-800-575-1540 or contacting Austin Adventures at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

But thanks to Austin Adventures, travelers can now discover some of the continent’s best kept secrets by going beyond the bike. In a move that reflects the multisport trend in travel, the company is announcing new group tours that include the traditional two-wheeled exploration but also incorporate a variety of outdoor activities.

“Throughout the years we’ve always had great success with our biking tours, but since the multisport concept is so deeply ingrained into the ethos of our company, we know 2015 is the perfect time to take this style of adventure travel across the pond and apply it to our itineraries in Europe,” said Dan Austin, president and founder of Austin Adventures (http://www.austinadventures.com).

The company, which has a 40-year legacy in the adventure travel industry and offers trips to all seven continents, is ushering in 2015 with four new Europe multisport adventure vacations for families. The trips average $3,300 per person and include Croatia: Dalmatian Coast, Scotland: Scottish Highlands, Austria: Alps to Salzburg and France: Normandy.

In addition to its new offerings for families, Austin Adventures has seven new Europe multisport adventure vacations designed for adults. The trips average $3,500 per person and include Croatia: Dalmatian Coast, Austria/Slovenia: Carinthia to the Julian Alps, Austria: Alps to Salzburg, Spain: Catalonia, Scotland: Scottish Highlands, France: Provence and Italy: South Tyrol & the Dolomites.

Most of the multisport itineraries center around a mix of biking, hiking and kayaking, but the company’s adventure travel consultants can accommodate add-ons such as climbing, fishing, horseback riding, paragliding, parasailing, whitewater rafting and windsurfing.

All of Austin Adventures’ new Europe multisport itineraries were designed by Ron van Dijk, the company’s European Operations Director and its most experienced guide. Van Dijk began his career as a guide in 1974 when he co-led a cycling tour with his father, Wim van Dijk, one of the original founders of Euro-Bike Tours which Austin Adventures acquired in 2008.

In July, van Dijk and his wife Elfriede will lead a special 40th anniversary trip—Austin Adventures’ Italy: South Tyrol and the Dolomites tour — a six-day, five-night adventure vacation that includes hiking and cycling in the Alps and the Dolomites.

In addition to his wife, van Dijk’s son, Dennis, and his daughter, Mirjam, are also guides for Austin Adventures.

“In fact, with my daughter and son now guiding, my family is well into the third generation of tour guides. I guess I'll plan to retire once the fourth generation is ready to roll!” said van Dijk. That day will be dreaded by the Austin Adventures guests who return year after year just for the chance to travel with van Dijk.

“Ron is the consummate professional, a connoisseur of customer service, historical knowledge, professionalism and kindness,” read a letter that Austin Adventures recently received from a couple who were on a Germany vacation guided by van Dijk in August.

Van Dijk, who manages the Austin Adventures’ European office in Holland, will make his annual trip to the company’s headquarters in Billings, MT in February. While in the U.S., he will host a webinar on the movement towards multisport travel in Europe.

All of the company’s scheduled multisport trips to Europe depart in spring and summer, but the sales team expects to see an uptick in booking during the holiday season when families are gathered together. Because trip space is limited and to encourage travelers to book early, Austin Adventures is offering to pay for pre-trip hotels for all guests who book their Europe Multisport Vacation by January 1, 2015.

In addition to multisport adventures, Austin Adventures also offers biking and hiking-specific itineraries as well as small ship cruises.  All of the 2015 scheduled trips can be found in the Austin Adventures award-winning adventure vacation catalogs.  Custom vacations can be arranged by calling (800) 575-1540 or emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. Austin Adventures Announces Death Valley Adventure Week

Adventure Travel Company Dedicates Week of Dec. 1-7, 2014 to Exploring Land of Extremes

BILLINGS, MT – Nov. 14, 2014 – The inaugural Austin Adventures Death Valley trip departs Feb. 15, 2015, but travelers can learn about this distinctive vacation destination during the company’s upcoming Death Valley Adventure Week Dec. 1-7.

In 2014, Death Valley National Park began celebrating its 20th anniversary as a national park, and the adventure travel consultants at Austin Adventures are noticing a strong uptick in the number of inquiries about the region.

“We’ve added several new trips to our 2015 line up of adult adventure vacations and Death Valley is one that I’m particularly excited about,” said Dan Austin, president and founder of Austin Adventures (http://www.austinadventures.com). “My daughter Kasey and I were the trip scouts last spring and for months we’ve been looking forward to the day our guests get to experience this unique, and often underrated, destination.”

Death Valley Adventure Week kicks off on Monday, Dec. 1 with the announcement of a Facebook giveaway. The week will continue with daily social media posts dedicated to all things Death Valley, and on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. EST, Dan Austin will host an informative webinar, Death Valley: Why the Hottest, Lowest and Driest Place in North America is a Must-See.

Webinar attendees who book an Austin Adventures Death Valley vacation by Jan. 7, 2015 will save $100 per adult on the price of their trip. They’ll also receive a complimentary copy of The Explorer’s Guide to Death Valley National Park.

Austin Adventures’ Death Valley Adventure Vacation is a five-day, four-night itinerary for adults that includes hiking in Golden Canyon, biking in Badwater Basin, touring Titus Canyon by Jeep 4x4 and plenty of rest and relaxation at the historic AAA four-diamond Inn at Furnace Creek Resort where guests stay all four nights.

Xanterra Parks & Resorts owns both Austin Adventures and the Furnace Creek Resort — a Death Valley National Park establishment since 1927. As a result, Austin Adventures guests are afforded exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences including a private sunset BBQ in the desert and rooms with some of the best views in the valley.

Death ValleyNational Park is the largest national park in the lower 48 states, and it is infamous for being the hottest, driest and lowest place in North America. But as the Austin Adventures blog points out in a recent post, 10 Ridiculously Cool Things That You Didn’t Know About Death Valley, there’s more to this expanse of the Mojave Desert than meets the eye.

The Ebola Effect: Tour Operator Amends Cancellation Policy

Austin Adventures to Waive Cancellation Fee if Health Officials Report a Confirmed Case of Ebola within 500-mile Radius of Trip’s Host City

BILLINGS, MT – Oct. 29, 2014 – It’s a highly unlikely event, but should health officials report a confirmed case of Ebola within 500 miles of an Austin Adventures vacation host city, the company is announcing that it will waive its trip cancellation fee.

“While we realize that the odds of Ebola affecting our itineraries are minuscule at best, we hope to assuage any fears that a guest may have by updating our cancellation policy to address this sensitive subject,” said Dan Austin, President and Founder of Austin Adventures (http://www.austinadventures.com/).

The adventure travel company, which offers trips to all seven continents, is applying the revised policy to all of its trips—not just those to Africa where many of its partners are also adjusting their cancellation policies.

As with most tour operators, Austin Adventures’ cancellation fee ranges in amount from 15 percent to 100 percent of the price of the trip depending on when the trip is cancelled. In order to avoid the cancellation fee, guests would have to cancel at least seven days prior to their scheduled departure.

The company’s host cities in Africa include Arusha, Brazzaville, Cape Town, Johannesburg, Livingstone, Maun, Nairobi and Windhoek. Brazzaville, the capital city of the Republic of the Congo, is nearest to the African countries that have reported confirmed Ebola cases, but even then it’s more than 3,000 miles away. This is roughly the distance between Maine and California.

On the improbable occasion that a case of Ebola is confirmed within the parameters, booked guests could either cancel their trip completely, at least seven days prior to their scheduled departure, without having to pay a cancellation fee, or they could postpone their trip and travel at a later date for the same price. In addition, Austin Adventures offers all of its guests travel insurance and encourages travelers to obtain coverage to cover any flight cancellation fees or penalties.

Austin Adventures’ legacy in the adventure travel industry goes back more than 40 years, and the company has been selling safaris in Africa for more than a decade. It currently offers 10 different adult and family vacation packages and a river cruise in African countries including Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and the Republic of Congo. The company’s adventure travel consultants can also arrange custom travel itineraries to the continent.

Austin Adventures’ new 2015 catalogs are now available. Anyone wishing to receive copies should visit http://www.austinadventures.com/request-catalog/ or call 1.800.575.1540.

Getting to Know the Galápagos: Land vs. Sea

Austin Adventures to Host Webinar Discussing Ways to Explore Ecuadorian Islands

BILLINGS, MT – Oct. 17, 2014 –The Austin Adventures office in Billings, MT is almost 4,000 miles away from the famous Galápagos Islands. But the adventure travel company could not be more prepared for its upcoming webinar that will tackle the tougher questions associated with travel to one of the world’s most sought after archipelagos.

“Traveling to the Galápagos Islands can be tricky, but with help from experts who are familiar with Ecuador’s rules and restrictions, it’s entirely possible and definitely worthwhile to visit the one of the first places to land on UNESCO’s World Heritage List,” says Dan Austin, President and Founder of Austin Adventures (http://www.austinadventures.com/).

Since many major travel decisions are made during the holidays when families are gathered together, Austin and his team of travel professionals hope to answer burning questions prior to the Thanksgiving holiday by hosting a Galápagos-themed 45-minute webinar on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 6:00 p.m. EST.  For more information and to reserve a seat please visit: https://www1.gotomeeting.com/register/814043352.

The topic of the webinar is “land-based vs. boat-based” and with the help of Austin Adventures’ partners Tropic Journeys in Nature and Ecoventura, participants will learn the benefits of these two distinct ways of exploring the islands. The webinar will close with a real time Q&A session with Austin and his adventure travel consultants as well as land-based expert Jascivan Carvalho of Tropic Journeys in Nature and boat-based expert Doris Welsh of Ecoventura.

“It’s pretty much a win-win situation when you have multiple ways to experience such a biologically diverse destination, and we’ve always gone out of our way to offer the best of both worlds to our guests who visit the Galápagos,” says Austin. “With this webinar, we hope to answer a lot of reoccurring questions regarding the ideal ways to visit these unique islands.”

Although Austin Adventures sells award-winning vacation packages to all seven continents, its Galápagos itineraries are among the most in-demand for both families and adults.

Austin Adventures currently offers five trips to the Galápagos including a new Galápagos Luxury Cruise that makes its debut in the company’s 2015 Adult Adventure Vacations Catalog. The other Galápagos tours that Austin Adventures offers include:

·         Ecuador Family: Galápagos Islands

·         Ecuador Family: Galápagos Islands Land-Based

·         Ecuador Adult: Galápagos Islands

·         Ecuador Adult: Galápagos Islands Land-Based

The webinar is open to consumers, members of the media and travel agents. Participants who book an Austin Adventurers Galápagos vacation by December 5 will receive a free gift. Austin Adventures will also cover the cost of their Galápagos National Park entrance fee ($100) and transit control card ($10).

Austin Adventures Releases 2015 Catalogs

New Catalogs Feature Several “Firsts” for Award-Winning Adventure Travel Company

BILLINGS, MT – Sept. 23, 2014 – It’s a whirlwind of activity at Austin Adventures in Billings, Montana. For months, the team has been designing two new 2015 catalogs that showcase more than 75 adventure vacations to some of the world’s most distinctive and enticing destinations.

For the first time in the history of the company, which has more than 40 years of experience in the adventure travel industry, the decision was made to go from producing one annual catalog to publishing two.

“Even though it meant more work for us, we decided that taking the singular catalog model and splitting it into two catalogs—one for adults and one for families—would make it easier for guests to “shop” our trips and be wowed by their ideal itinerary,” said Dan Austin, President and Founder of Austin Adventures (http://www.austinadventures.com/).

The Adult Adventure Vacations catalog is 69 pages and includes trips and small ship cruises that take guests to all seven continents—also a first for Austin Adventures.

“We’ve been waiting for the opportune time to add Asia to our roster, and this is the year! We’ve had such great success with our Amazon River cruise trips, so when our partners there launched a new cruise that visits Cambodia and Vietnam, we knew we had to be a part of it,” explained Austin.

Other adult vacations that are being offered for the first time include Death Valley (California), Provence (France), South Tyrol & the Dolomites (Italy), Nairobi to Masai Mara (Kenya), Best of the Serengeti (Tanzania), the Great Wilderness Journey (Botswana), Galapagos Islands Luxury (Ecuador), and the Chobe River (Botswana).

The Family Adventure Vacations catalog is 56 pages and includes new itineraries that go to Arizona, Croatia, Montana, Namibia, Peru and Scotland. Austin Adventures has always offered family trips, but unlike others in the industry, the company doesn’t believe in taking adult itineraries and adding kids to make them kid-friendly. Every family itinerary detail is chosen with children front of mind.

Family vacations are something that the company has always excelled at. In September 2012 Travel + Leisure ranked Austin Adventures the #1 Family Tour Operator in the World and in 2014, Kasey Austin, Vice President of Operations, was named the World’s Top Family Guide by Outside Magazine.

The new Death Valley and Grand Canyon trips are made possible with the help of Xanterra Parks & Resorts®, the industry-leading hospitality company that acquired Austin Adventures in 2013. Xanterra has properties at many of Austin Adventures’ domestic destinations and guests reap the benefits from the close relationship between the two companies.

The exciting news for foreign trips is that for the first time, the bike tours in Europe have been redesigned as multisport tours to keep up with the demand from travelers looking for a variety of active experiences and adventures.

In addition to appearing in the catalogs, all of the new trips can be seen at http://www.austinadventures.com/new-trips-for-2015/.

“The focus for our 2015 trips was providing value, and we accomplished our goal of being able to maintain, and in many cases, lower trip prices,” said Austin.

Although some trip prices did increase, the company is running an early bird promotion where guests who book by Nov.1, 2014 can receive 2014 prices on 2015 trips. Additional incentives include $100 off for first-time Austin Adventures’ travelers who book a trip within 45 days of receiving a catalog, and an alumni referral award that saves alumni $150 on their next trip when someone they refer books a trip.

The new 2015 catalogs are currently going out in the mail. Anyone wishing to receive copies should visit http://www.austinadventures.com/request-catalog/ or call 1.800.575.1540.
