Moab Adventure Center and Rocky Mountaineer Partner-Up to Serve Rockies to Red Rocks Train Passengers

MOAB, UT, June 28, 2022 – Moab Adventure Center is the go-to resource for all outdoor fun in the red rock playground of Moab, Utah. In late spring, Moab Adventure Center announced a partnership with the Canadian company, Rocky Mountaineer, to host train passengers on guided activities while in Moab.

Through years of negotiation and coordination by Rocky Mountaineer, local businesses and authorities, this is the first-everpassenger rail service to run directly into Moab. The trainutilizes the KaneCreek Line rail spur created for the mining industry in Moab. Historically, passenger rail only came within 52 miles of Moab to Green River, but the Kane Creek Line allows train service from Denver through Moab and onward.Rocky Mountaineer launched a preview season of their Rockies to the Red Rocks passenger route in 2021; 2022 is the first full season of Rocky Mountaineer’s only U.S. route -- and guests are loving it.

The itinerary includes overnight stays in Moab at Hyatt Place and Hoodoo Moab by Hilton. The company’s signature glass-domed trains are scheduled for weekly departures on Monday and Thursday. The season for the train began in mid-April and will continue through the end of October 2022.  Rail packages begin from $1375 pp USD. Moab Adventure Center is providing a centralized guest meeting center at its downtown Moab headquarters. Here the staff assists passengers in selecting from its menu of fun-filled ways to explore Moab. These include rafting in Moab, Arches National Park tours and Off-Road Hummer tours. Passengers are also invited to pre-book these tours or reserve their spaces upon arrival if seats are still available.

“We anticipate that most train guests will arrange to spend one or two extra days in Moab on the front or the back end of their train journey,” said Matthew Jaureguy, Moab Station Manager. The partnership projects 9,000 passengers will enjoy this service in 2022 (up from 7,000 in 2021) and that 50 percent of sales will be generated by travel agents/advisors.

Package options begin with a Rockies to the Red Rocks itinerary that brings guests from Denver westbound to Moab or from Moab eastbound to Denver with one night in a hotel in Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

To date, the most popular package offers three hotel nights (one each in Denver, Glenwood Springs, and Moab) as guests journey through two days of extraordinary landscapes with snowcapped mountains, vast canyons, inspiring deserts, natural archways and enchanting hoodoos (tall rock spires). Available in SilverLeaf and SilverLeaf Plus Service, this Rocky Mountaineer rail route is filled with highlights best seen by train, including Ruby Canyon, Mount Garfield and crossing the Continental Divide.

Passengers who want to explore more broadly and deeply can book one of thecarefully curated packages, with options to start or end the journey in Las Vegas or Salt Lake City.

Rocky Mountaineer https://www.rockymountaineer.com/ has a reputation for top-of-its-classluxury rail journeys. Instead of sleeping on the train, the company arranges for guests to overnight at select hotels enrouteso they do not miss a moment of the ever-changing landscapes through oversized train windows.

Rocky Mountaineer Luxury Rail Adventures in addition to Rockies to the Red Rocks include:

  • First Passage to the West: Vancouver-Kamloops-Banff/Lake Louise. This is the company’s most popular route through the Canadian Rockies, famous for connecting Canada’s East and West.
  • Journey through the Clouds: Vancouver-Kamloops-Jasper.  Witness the unparalleled beauty of the highest peaks in the Canadian Rockies and the remote vistas of Canada's West.
  • Rainforest to Gold RushVancouver-Whistler-Quesnel-Jasper. Carve through extreme landscapes like BC's coastal rainforest, the rugged Fraser Canyon, and the historic Cariboo gold rush region enroute to the Canadian Rockies.

Rocky Mountaineer has long had the goal of expanding their routes so they could bring their world-class experience to showcase new destinations. The Canadian company sought a well-respected an experienced local operation based in Moab, Utah, as its partner, and one that could provide a full service, explained Jaureguy. "We view this option as a great alternative to a road trip via an automobile. Our guests add to the economy of Moab with shopping, dining, lodging and activity tours while in town, with lower overall impact than the car-based tourist.”
